Rookies were on the ice yesterday at the Prudential Center. A few vets held an informal skate.

Coaches John MacLean, Adam Oates, Larry Robinson, Chris Terreri and Jacques Caron.

Defenseman Tyler Eckford was excused as he had a death in the family thus not on the ice. Our thoughts are with Tyler and his family.

A few Rookies I am excited to see what they could bring in the next few days; Tedenby, Josefson, Urbom, Zharkov (although not a rookie), Henrique, Pamieri and Vasyunov. Personally I believe at least two of them needs to crack the lineup - if not more.

As I get updates Ill be sharing it with you all.

In other news...

Anssi Salmela will start the season in the Long Term Injury list. Salmela is recovering from surgery due to an injury suffered in a game in Finland. Apparently he is far from close to returning and according to Uncle Lou "...has a long ways to go."

An interesting interview Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice Blog with Captain Jamie Langenbrunner. Jamie refers to "us" as a group of players in the Devils organization that have gotten close as they all know one or two may be casualties of the cap due to the signing of the $100M man, Ilya Kovalchuk. No doubt there is some concerns and perhaps tension knowing you may not be around the organization for too long.
Lets hope it gets settled sooner than later so that there is minimal distractions as the season comes close.

With that being said, I do nt think any moves will come soon as much of the moves will depend on how the rookies do in camp. The ability of any to be able to come in and contribute will help determine which lambs to sacrifice.

Here is something to chew on...
With the recent theme Uncle Lou has of bringing back former Devils, and this year is not exception bringing back Jason Arnott, an interesting buzz has spread. How about the possibility of Souray coming back to the Devils??!!
Souray has been pegged as a bad locker room guy, voiced opinions of Edmonton's management and they made a statement asking him not to attend camp.
Salvador and ? (Zubrus, Rolston, White - assuming no-trades are lifted) for Souray and a pick or 3rd liner that is responsible defensively? This gives the Devils another puck moving Dman along with Greene, I believe Souray's attitude could be brought to reality with the Devils and Uncle Lou, he will be given another chance with a strong team. I also believe Souray's contract can be burried in the minors should the experiment go bad.

These are just rumors from the mill, nothing from any sticky sources.

What are your thoughts?

Truly yours,
