NHL lays down big time fine on Devils! |

The NHL tonight handed a severe fine to the New Jersey Devils in their hand on the Ilya Kovalchuk saga:
3 Million Dollars, A First Round pick and a Third Round Pick.
Lou Lamoriello issued this statement following the news:
"We were today advised of the ruling By the Commissioner with respect to the Kovalchuk matter. We disagree with the decision. We acted in good faith and did nothing wrong. We will have no further comment."
A bit harsh? I would say so.
The Devils get to chose which First Round pick to give up. This will not affect the Devils salary cap.
All I can say is Bettman's reputation in New Jersey just hit an all time low.
I do mo think this is fair, especially since the Devils just pushed the envelope with regards to these long term contracts.
New Jersey can appeal the ruling and I sure hope they do so!
"The Kovalchuk Rule" has caused quite a stir for the Devils this off season. Is it worth it? Only time will tell but the pressure is on Lamoriello, Kovalchuk and the New Jersey Devils.
Does winning one Cup in the next 1-3 years heal the wound?
I, also, have no further comment.
Truly yours,
The Devils Advocate
