The Nashville Predators have been part of Music City for 12 years now and in that time they have really done some incredible work in the community through their foundation. The Nashville Predators Foundation has supported many different efforts that have made a very positive difference in Nashville, from youth activities to flood relief, their help has been a constant, and now, they are supporting a new and exciting effort in association with the Tennessee Arts Commission.

Nashville Children's Theatre is announcing the launch of its first ever drama classes specifically designed for kids on the Autism Spectrum! They are offering classes on Wednesday afternoons in the fall and on Saturday mornings in the spring. Support from the TAC and the Predators Foundation is making these classes possible.

For those unfamiliar, NCT is one of the most popular and successful professional children’s theatre groups in the nation. They stage a full season of plays for kids, from the fun of “Schoolhouse Rock” to more serious offerings, they always provide the children of Nashville an educational experience and valuable exposure to the arts for a reasonable cost. The fact that it's a heckuva lot of fun is a bonus!

They are currently accepting application materials for these ASD classes. Full information and instructions for enrollment are here. NCT does offer financial assistance to those in need.

This sounds like a great opportunity, if you know of a child between the ages of 8-14 with Austism Spectrum Disorders, please let them know about this program. The good folks at NCT do a marvelous job, you can check out their website here for a fuller look at the entire program, and their slate of shows for the 2010-2011 season.

Random Notes

- NHL.com has the Predators “30 in 30” posted today. A much more positive outlook that the Hockey News. Interesting quote… “The Predators have the track record to suggest that they are on the cusp of becoming one of the elite teams in the NHL.” Yikes!

- A little less than 30 days until the opening of training camp.

- Really good piece by Dirk Hoag at On the Forecheck yesterday regarding the controversy over Arkansas radio reporter Renee Gork.

- The hype is starting to build around the World Hockey Summit in Toronto that starts this coming Monday. A multitude of topics will be discussed from Rink Size (do we need a world-wide standard?) to safety. This meeting will bear watching.

- In some respects… the Chicago Blackhawks completely screwed their Cup-winning goaltender. Antti Niemi remains a free agent after Chicago walked away from a reasonable arbitrator award after most of the starting goaltending openings were filled. It makes you wonder if arbitration needs to be moved to before the UFA deadline.

- I’m really getting into the Pro Hockey Talk blog over at msnbc.com. Good insight and snappy writing.

- Speaking of good reads, consistent fun over at Puck Daddy. I’m really liking the “Mount Puckmore” series. Sometimes the snark factor is a tad over the top over there, but overall, a lot of fun.

- 52 days to Opening Night!! Summer sucks… Drop the Puck!
