Monday Notes

- I’m still trying to catch my breath after an incredible weekend of playoff hockey. I’ve been following this game for a long time and I never remember a start to the playoff like this.

- Good golly, don’t go near the San Jose Sharks in a lightning storm. I’m moving from the King Kong analogy to Murphy’s Law… they are finding new and creative ways to choke this series. An own-goal? Wow… the HP Pavilion will be an interesting place on Thursday night…

- Big win for Philly last night, beating New Jersey in OT… Dan Carcillo with the game winner, adding insult to injury for the Devils.

- Peter Prucha comes up huge for the ‘Yotes yesterday as they laid a smackdown on the Red Wings. This series is going to be a dogfight to the end. I’m really wondering about the true extent of the injury to Shane Doan…

- The Pens win in game three gives them the definitive advantage in their series with the Sens. Ottawa seems to have found out that they are playing the defending champs… something Pittsburgh seems to have learned how to be.

- Critical game 3 tonight in Montreal as the Capitals try to take control of a series they should already have control of.

- Buffalo/Boston on Saturday was an unbelievable game, I am really looking forward to watching game three tonight.

On the home front…

- I listed out a few things that the Preds needed to do if they were to steal a second game in Chicago. Discipline was critical, something the Preds lost last night, giving the ‘Hawks lethal power play five opportunities. They can count themselves luck that they only gave up one goal. The counter moves to adjustments Chicago made were not executed effectively. Chicago did a great job of pushing the tempo, hitting their first outlet pass, quickly moving from zone-to-zone. Nashville showed as much frustration last night as Chicago showed Friday. Goaltending was even, and Niemi didn’t make the critical mistake he did on Friday, the key difference in net.

- The mystery deepens around Patrick Hornqvist. Is he injured? An equipment problem? I love the enigmatic answers you get during the playoffs. Hornqvist, and his presence in front of the net, was sorely missed last night.

- Game three is tomorrow night… special 8pm start time, an hour later than normal. Doors will open at 6:30pm, 30 minutes earlier than the normal one hour prior to game time.

- Blake Geoffrion is off to a roaring start in his professional career, potting two goals in only his second professional game, leading the Milwaukee admirals to a 6-0 pasting of the Chicago Wolves in game three of their best of seven West Division semi-final.
