Playoff Seeding Scenarios for the Predators from the Voice of the Predators and HBR’s co-host Pete Weber. Buckle in… there are some crazy possibilities that could arise this week.

Entering this week only Colorado, Detroit, and Los Angeles can still catch the Preds in the conference standings.

If the Preds earn 4 points this week…
• Neither Colorado nor Detroit could catch Nashville
• Los Angeles would need to earn 8 of a possible 8 points to pass the Preds (with 7 points the Kings would tie the Preds at 102 points, but Nashville would own the tie breaker based on tie breaker #1 Wins – 48 wins to 47 wins)
• the Preds could earn the No. 4 seed if Phoenix earned 0 of a possible 6 points this week and Nashville would have to finish the season with a better goal differential (currently Coyotes lead Goal Differential +20 to +2)

If the Preds earn 3 points this week…
• Colorado could not catch Nashville
• Detroit would need to earn 6 of a possible 6 points to pass the Preds (with 5 points the Red Wings would tie the Preds at 101 points, but Nashville would own the tie breaker based on tie breaker #1 more Wins – 47 wins to 43 wins)
• Los Angeles would need to earn 7 of a possible 8 points to pass the Preds (with 6 points the Kings would tie the Preds, but Nashville would own the tie breaker – with a 3-1-0 Kings record it would be tie breaker #2 better head-to-head series record; with a 2-0-2 Kings record it would be tie breaker #1 more Wins)

If the Preds earn 2 points this week…
• Colorado could not catch Nashville
• Detroit would need to earn 5 of a possible 6 points to pass the Preds (with 4 points the Red Wings would tie the Preds at 100 points, but Nashville would own the tie breaker based on tie breaker #1 more wins – Nashville has already secured more possible wins than Detroit)
• Los Angeles would need to earn 6 of a possible 8 points to pass the Preds (with 5 points the Kings would tie the Preds, but Nashville would own the tie breaker – which tie breaker – more wins or better head-to-head series record – would depend on the combination of wins/OTLs got either team to the 2 or 5 points)

If the Preds earn 1 point this week…
• Colorado could not catch Nashville
• Detroit would need to earn 4 of a possible 6 points to pass the Preds (with 3 points the Red Wings would tie the Preds at 99 points, but Nashville would own the tie breaker based on tie breaker #1 more wins – 46 wins to 41 or 42 wins)
• Los Angeles would need to earn 5 of a possible 8 points to pass the Preds (with 4 points the Kings would tie the Preds, but Nashville would own the tie breaker – with a 2-2-0 Kings record it would be tie breaker #2 better head-to-head series record; with a 1-1-2 or 0-0-4 Kings record it would be tie breaker #1 more Wins)

If the Preds earn 0 points this week…
• Colorado would need to go 4-0-0 to pass the Preds
• Detroit would need to earn 3 of a possible 6 points to pass the Preds (with 2 points the Red Wings would tie the Preds at 98 points, but Nashville would own the tie breaker based on tie breaker #1 more wins – 46 wins to 41 or 42 wins)
• Los Angeles would need to earn 4 of a possible 8 points to pass the Preds (with 3 points the Kings would tie the Preds, but Nashville would own the tie breaker based on tie breaker #1 more wins – 46 wins to 45 wins)
