Reality Check

OK, it is time for this Devils team to get it together. I am not complaining, I am demanding! Devils fans have gotten much demanding over the last few years and last year's playoff exit still leaves a bad taste in our mouths.
The point is - This team is better than that!

A win against the elite Sharks then a reality check against a hard working Oilers. Both ends of the spectrum for this Devils team.
Winning 6 of last 20 games is not how you want to start the stretch run. This with adding Ilya Kovalchuk. Could it be the Devils were a better team prior to the blockbuster trade?

This statement by Captain Langenbrunner shows the state of mind of this team:
“It’s just going to get higher as we come down to these last 15 games or so. We’ve got to find that level and start playing at it. We’re not there. We’re not competing. We’re getting outworked every night. We can’t have that.”

Again, the Devils are better than that.

It seems to me that this Devils team is trying too hard. Kovalchuk, for example, was trying to do everything at times. He is not in Atlanta anymore, he has some great linemates.
The defense is missing something. Could that something be Paul Martin? I sure hope so. I sure hope Martin steps in sooner than later to get some games in and the rust off.

Dean McAmmond got hit into the boards and did not return. It does not look like anything serious as he felt numbness in his arm.

Can a tilt with cross river rivals New York Rangers on Wednesday night be a spark plug? Time will tell but this is a great time, after some rest today, for this Devils team to show up and gain some confidence.

According to Marty Brodeur;
“What a great team for us to face and try to turn it around,....Motivation shouldn’t be a factor.”

Lets go Devils!

Truly yours,
