Ek Notes:

*I am told there is a monster deal being discussed between Montreal, Edmonton and Dallas. Definitely checking around, but my source in Montreal called it a definitive "game changer that will make much of what has happened in Montreal to this point more understandable." I will update early evening should a source call me back today. I was told he would get to me by 7 ET tonight or early tomorrow.

*Last we checked in with the Penguins and Ray Whitney, the price had grown too large. Now, at least according to one source, the two sides are talking again.

*I still am of the belief the Kings will make one last pitch and perhaps grab Whitney. There is little doubt that Whitney is a big fish on March 1.

*Sources I am talking to here in Vancouver are undecided and split as to whether or not we should expect some midnight trades on March 1 when the clock strikes to end the freeze. I still believe there is one involving Boston, and possibly a second, minor deal involving Chicago. However, the Hawks deal is a definite set-up deal for another trade the Hawks have been trying to figure out for 18 months now...so maybe they have figured the bigger deal out.

*"The Calgary Flames love David Booth" was all I got in a text from a source who rarely texts me much, but whose information is always pertinent.
