Kovalchuk Update
Also, I am told the Flyers are stepping up more in the Kovalchuk talks and that they may have a few key pieces that fill the needs of the Thrashers that many teams don't have. The Thrashers need help now and in the future.
The Kings continue to be interested, but it isn't looking as strong as my sources thought last week that they have all the right pieces. (despite reports coming out just now that the two sides are talking at all)
At this point, in fact, teams are still not at the level of "offers" going back and forth with Atlanta as has been widely reported. What I am hearing is more that teams who are interested are putting together lists of possible chips, and so far Atlanta is pretty underwhelmed by it.
Next week this all will definitely accelerate. It has to. But right now, much of the media is just playing catch up as to the teams involved.
On Phaneuf...
Sources continue to tell me that a deal is there to be made and the Flames are "Very much OK about talking a Phaneuf trade."
On Souray...
I was told that the Oilers are talking to "at least 4 teams" who have serious interest in Sheldon Souray and that Souray is fine with going to any of them. All that I know for certain is that as of this writing none of the possible suitors for Souray are Canadian teams.
The Devils and Bruins are definitely involved.
Nylander to Jokerit (e4-5)
I am told that Nylander will officially be signing with Jokerit in Finland any time now.
"It will happen. It will be done very soon."
