6-1

It ‘s a score burned into the minds of this Predator’s team. After a decent start to the season, three well played games and a 2-1-0 record, the Predators and Oilers got together on Canadian Thanksgiving. Edmonton jumped out to a 6-0 lead, posting four in the first and two in the second before Jason Arnott broke up the shutout with 49 seconds left in the period. By that time, the game was over. This game was the beginning of an epic slide for the Predators as they lost their next four, turning a decent start into a trip to the bottom of the conference standings.

The Predators have recovered from their horrendous October, parlaying an outstanding November and early December to turn a potentially disastrous season into one with intriguing possibilities.

Tonight’s game finds the Predators as prey, the Oilers have been on a tear lately, before dropping a heartbreaker to the Kings on Tuesday, they had ripped off a five game winning streak. That streak is even more impressive when you consider that it took place entirely on the road and featured wins over Detroit and Dallas. The only problem is, with a five game win streak, they were only able to pick up two points on the Western Conference pack and remain in 12th, five points out of the playoff mix. The Predators need to keep a close eye on Dustin Penner, who has been lighting it up in place of the injured Ales Hemsky..

Western Canada trips have usually had mixed results for the Predators. This pre-Christmas roadie does come after an exceedingly successful series of home games. Tuesday night’s win over Tampa Bay was Nashville’s 20th victory of the season in the team’s 34th game. It’s the third fastest to 20 wins in franchise history, behind 05-06 (30 games) and 06-07 (31 games).

Edmonton is battling injuries, besides Hemsky they will be without Nikolai Khabibulin and Mike Comrie. The Predator’s Jordin Tootoo did not make the trip and is recovering from a broken foot. Game time is 8:30pm CST, coverage on 104.5 the Zone and FS Tennessee.
