The back channel shadiness that is the way Jim Balsillie seems to work continues in the Phoenix bankruptcy mess…
We know that Balsillie and his lawyer, Richard Rodier were working to de-stabilize the Predators all the way back to 2005, manipulating the city government and local media to raise questions and poison the relationship between the ownership of the franchise and the government. We have seen the effectiveness of that… even though the local newspaper refuses to cover the story.
Now that same playbook is being used in the Phoenix situation. The NHL is claiming that the Blackberry boss has been actively trying to keep other bidders from participating in the process, working with local organizations to raise questions about finances including the Arizona-based Goldwater Institute. Hmmm… where have we seen this before?
Of course the Balsillie camp is denying any involvement… sure… I’m buying that.
The auction is three weeks away… and only two weeks before the bankruptcy judge rules on weather to toss Balsillie’s bid as the league is requesting.

The Predators will get one national TV game this year, the Monday before Thanksgiving at home against the Red Wings. The start time of that game has been moved to 6pm to accommodate… it’ll be a national cable doubleheader as the Titans will be on ESPN’s Monday Night Football a little later that same evening.
