The Hossa Riddle...

Marian Hossa is now reported to have a torn rotator cuff and may require surgery. That surgery could keep him out of the lineup until December.

Huh?

It is also being reported that the injury was sustained in the playoffs.

What?

ESPNChicago.com is reporting that the Blackhawks were aware of the injury before signing Hossa to that massive 12 year deal.

This information drives some questions…

> If surgery is needed, why didn’t it happen already? A month and a half of rehab time has been wasted if he ends up going under the knife.

> Why no announcement? Aren’t NHL teams required to disclose injuries? We heard nothing of an “upper body injury,” no after playoff revelation about this at all.

> Is this the reason for Hossa’s poor performance in the playoffs?

Exactly what kind of butt covering is going on here? Is Blackhawk management trying to cover a lack of due diligence? Is Marian Hossa or his agent trying to cover up a lack of disclosure? Did Hossa and his agent negotiate in good faith?

For the last fourteen months or so, it seems that drama has followed Marian Hossa… form his one year signing in Detroit, to his folding under the pressure of the playoffs. The soap opera has now come to Chicago and it seems the Blackhawks have replaced an oft-injured forward with one that may be showing the same potential.

Stay tuned for this one gang… I have a feeling it’s going to be a dilly of a story.
