Just back from conditioning camp… another up-tempo session that pushed the prospects hard the entire time on the ice. Several coaches made the comment that the kids were getting sore after three days of working them hard.

Even with that soreness, there were standouts today on the ice…

Nick Spaling – Another great session. He showed well in almost every drill and showed some great skill around the net. Pred assistant coaches can’t say enough about him.

Casey Wellman – The lone free agent invite to the camp, the Brentwood, California native is a product of the burgeoning West Coast youth hockey programs. He certainly drew praise from Preds assistant coach Peter Horachek for his skating and his energy. He is attending UMass-Amherst in the fall and is opening some eyes at camp.

Russ Sinkewich – Stood out in the defensive drills, the Milwaukee Admiral signee has a very heavy shot.

Zach Budish – Impressed the coaches with his skating, especially given the injury he is recovering from. Showed a little more physicality today and was playing tough in the corner.

Ryan Ellis – Energy seemed just slightly down from yesterday, but he was able to show off his one-timer and his slapper today in defensive drills. He unleashed a nasty one-timer that zipped about three inches off the ice and completely handcuffed goaltender Chet Pickard.

No on ice session tomorrow, the concluding ice will be Saturday morning where I expect a big crowd to see these baby Preds.
