Kovalev Rally, 10 Questions for Monday |
|
|
|
Quite a show of support in yesterday's downtown area for Alex Kovalev. Hundreds of fans lobbied for his return to Montreal. It all seems rather confusing to me, given Kovalev's tendency to take nights off, and his reputation as a royal pain in the ass for any coach to deal with. I certainly can't argue with the fact that his talent level has been unmatched by any player skating with the Canadiens over the last decade, but with the signings of Gomez, Gionta, and Cammelleri, the team isn't lacking in talent. I think the main reason people adamantly support Kovalev's return is because they fear a new era of hockey in Montreal without a recognizable/familiar leader.
And many would suggest that Alex Kovalev is far from being a leader, though you can't argue with his coincidental success when being given the captaincy in Saku Koivu's absence.
But, Alex Kovalev was given a chance to return to Montreal, and for whatever reason he hesitated on taking that chance.
I'd sooner attend a rally for Koivu...
Ten Questions for Monday morning:
1. Are the Habs done on the market?
2. Komisarek's loss can be blamed on the Habs, or on Komisarek?
3. Do you like the new top line?
4. Is the blueline tough enough?
5. With Komisarek gone, do the Canadiens need to keep Ryan O'Byrne with the team, or would they be better served to play Weber or Subban?
6. Will Tomas Plekanec return to form next season, with guys like Kovalev and Koivu out the door?
7. D'Agostini or Pacioretty? Who deserves a crack at the lineup more?
8. Andrei Markov for Captain? Who should wear the C?
9. If it gets to the end of the summer, and the Habs want to add a 7th dman, should it be Bouillon, Dandenault, or Schneider?
10. Should the Canadiens consider bringing back Robert Lang?
