Tony Marinaro Gets it Right, Laraque Comes to Montreal, BG Presser now RIS

As you all know by now, Georges Laraque is a Montreal Canadien for the next three years. He's under contract for 4.5 million dollars, and certainly adds an element of toughness the Canadiens need.

Minor deals earlier, saw Ced Desjardins assume Jan Danis' position in Hamilton, after a breakthrough season in the ECHL. He'll have some competition as the Canadiens have also signed Marc Denis.

No Comment Bob?

The bad news: Bob Gainey hasn’t signed any unrestricted free agents.

The good news: Bob Gainey didn’t sign Mike Commodore, Cristobal Huet, Jeff Finger, or Michael Ryder to absolutely ridiculous deals.

More good news: Sundin, Hossa, Jagr, Naslund, and Bertuzzi are still available, and although some on that short list may not entice you, it’s hard to imagine any one of those players as a

Who's Got My Chunky Soup?

Here we are, just hours away from unrestricted free agency, and #13 on the Habs is still available for anyone who’d like to wear it next year. Equally disheartening is the fact that Andrei Kostitsyn has yet to resign.

Cliff Fletcher is on the record discussing 2 or 3 contingency plans for the Leafs should Sundin decide he’s moving on, and as usual, here in Montreal no one knows anything be

Vinny Locked in Tampa for 9 years, at 77 Mil...

We can still dream, but unless things fall apart in Tampa (as if they haven't already) Vinny will be a part of the Lightning for the rest of his career.

Habs Looking to Add Leafs Captain to Already Improved Roster

You guys wanna talk Habs? I'll lay the groundwork, because I'm eager to hear what you all think, but I'll be back with some major input on this weekend's transpirings.

-Alex Tanguay replaces Michael Ryder...Anyone object? Didn't think so...Tanguay comes for the 25th pick, and a second round pick in next year’s draft.

-Bob Gainey has obtained exclusive rights to sign Mats Sundin before Ju

Erik Cole for Pitkanen?!? Habs Could do Better for Dream Fit

As Darren Dreger speculates on possible dance partners at this year’s NHL draft something he said is quite peculiar. He believes Carolina’s Jim Rutherford is so desperate for defense he’s willing to swap Erik Cole for Joni Pitkanen. Dreger suggests Justin Williams and Tuomo Ruutu could be other potential candidates for a trade with Edmonton.

I’m not entirely sure if this is coming from

Habs 1st Round Draft Plans

Here in Montreal, typically, things around the Canadiens are quiet. No news on Mark Streit or whether those negotiations have even formally begun. No word on Michael Ryder, or whether the club has any intention of retaining him. No updates on Andrei Kostitsyn, though we know negotiations are underway. Nothing on Josh Gorges. No word on Mathieu Dandenault. Bryan Smolinski’s name hasn’t even bee

Habs Summer Plans- Improving the Roster For a Run at Stanley

I hope everyone's summer is going well. After an extensive rest, it's time to get back to the business of discussing what's most important to us all: our beloved Canadiens. Without further ado...

Not much new on the Habs front, as Bob Gainey negotiates with Andrei Kostitsyn, and the administration decides how much is too much for Mark Streit. Don’t be surprised to see Michael Ryder land with

Dissapearing Act: Streit and Markov Playoff No-Shows

I don’t personally like to call out players, especially when there’s no recourse on their behalf, or I can’t approach them and let them know that I’ve done so. To call out Mark Streit and Andrei Markov would be somewhat unfair if no one really noticed that things didn’t go particularly well for them in the post-season, but the facts are that everyone noticed.

So what was the problem?
