Much has been said about Martin Brodeur.
Much has been said about Scott Stevens.
Many other awesome players have worn NJ Devils sweaters; Muller, Shanahan, Stastny, Langenbrunner, Niedermayer, Rafalski, Gomez, Gilmour, Guerin, MacLean, Andreychuk, Mogilny... to name a few.

Very few are considered a "True Devil".

Patrik Elias is a very underrated player and Id venture to say one of the most well-rounded in the NHL. Im not saying it only because he is my all-time favorite NHLer.

He had a great deal of success, especially playing with Arnott and Sykora. I still wish we had gotten Sykora back or trade for another countrtyman for Elias.
He has battled some illness that affected his game.
He could have jumped ship when he became a UFA, but decided to take a long term deal and drink some more of Uncle Lou's Kool Aid. It wasnt about the money.
He became Captain but his affected game just made the C a bigger deal. I personally dont think wearing the C had much of a a negative effect.
He is seeing a rebirth this season, he has 71 points. Most since 03/04 with 81 points.

This evening he has tied NJ Devils franchise record of 701 points and is tied with John MacLean. Quietly doing his job he is also becoming a NJ Devils immortal. Along with Marty I would consider his jersey being retired, perhaps even prior to Niedermayer due ot the fact that Elias has been a Devils his entire career and maybe for the rest.

A class act, we should give the Devil his due.

Next game vs the Hawks could be a special one;
Two true Devils could each make history.
Marty and Patty you both deserve it, this team's run is largely attributed to them and for them.

Patrik Elias, Thank You for being a New Jersey Devil.

Truly yours,
THe Devils Advocate
