Yes… THE Beast of the East In my humble biased opinion. Or is it Beast of the NHL?

Business as usual as the Devils’ trade deadline acquisition of the best goaltender in history, Martin Brodeur for those who didn’t know, has given them another boost.
This game vs the Flyers was a great barometer. A great one. Only negative was an 0fer on the power play.

100 shutouts… and counting. Wow! What can you say?
Marty is looking better by the game and the team has bought into the aspiration of his return.
MVP-esque season by Parise. What can you say?
Rebirth of Patty Elias. What can you say?
4 lines rolling minding their business without line matching.
Coach Sutter doing a fine job of keeping the team grounded and hard working all season. And this has been no ordinary season as we learned we can do it without Marty. Now lets see what we can do with Marty.
This team is special, this team has the ability to go deep in the playoffs.

The team also knows the trading deadline is a couple of days away. It seems like they have all stepped up to prove their worth.

Nonsense in predicting what Uncle Lou might do come D-day but as I have said from the start of the season; Lou will do whatever he thinks is necessary to get Martin Brodeur one more “serious” run at the Cup before his contract is up. The Devils owe it to the ultimate New Jersey Devil who has given our organization much to be proud of.
I feel a top 6 Dman (or an upgrade to our current 6 man lineup) would be appropriate.
Names that quickly come to mind are Pronger, Niedermayer, Bouwmeester, Leopold, Morris, Aucoin but they are on most team’s radar. These kind of players usually go to the “highest bidder” and we know Uncle Lou will not overpay for anyone.
How about looking into guys like Hamhuis, Kuba, O’Donnell (although Im not sure if hes at all an upgrade unless someone like White goes), Hal Gill could be an interesting addition.

Here are some pipe dreams of mine :
Witt and Guerin for White, Vrana and a pick???
Just throwing stuff on the wall.
Guerin would be all too appropriate to come to the Devils adding to the family reunion. Niedermayer would be the cherry on top! But we all could dream.

Cheechoo, Lemieux, Erhoff for Gionta (or Madden), Pandolfo, Weekes, Orr-Duya.???
I think there could be a trade match with SJ who may want a spark prior to playoffs. Plus I wanted to find a way to get Lemieux back for the reunion!
What are your trade offers for the Devils?
By the way… did someone crack into Ek’s Rumour Chart? A funny joke showing Sean Avery with a 5% chance (down from 15%) of coming to Jersey??!!?? There is a better chance of angels flying out of my rear than Avery coming to the Devils. Not gonna happen and Ill bet on it!

Also, speaking of Guerin… 7 teams in his stellar career Billy deserves another chance to play for the Cup.

Truly yours,
The Devils Advocate
