Update from the Wachovia.....
19,000 people tuned into PhiladelphiaFlyers.com at the start of this preseason game to watch the stream....Now that number is over 40,000! Very impressive and hats off to Kevin and the staff at the website. When you consider the Phillies are also playing a major game tonight across the street, that number gets huge kudos
To begin, what an outstanding weekend.
For one we have something new to talk about...
HOCKEY GAMES!
Yes this "Summer of Mats" has taken its toll...(and will continue to do so I am sorry to say) but the boys are actually lacing them up again and just exactly how many ways can we say, "Hooray!"?
I am very curious as to what all of your thoughts are on the games you have seen to date. Friends of mine who watched Stamkos play in Pitt were impressed but also said that to them Stamkos was playing a bit too conservatively and within himself...noting, "Stamkos is a player who needs to be on the edge."
Of course, this is the kid's first ever time playing with the big boys and surely he is going to need time to learn where exactly that edge is at this level. From the limited highlights I could find I feel it is safe to say that the Lightning are NOT going to be the worst team in hockey this season...not by a long shot.
So what are your expectations of Stamkos?
Me personally... I am looking for 30 goals 40 assists, and a solid plus/minus (that will also be a big key on a Melrose run team)
As I have said this is prediction week, and I will launch into my division predictions this afternoon as well...(and yes the emails can stop...Burt the Dog will return)

Talking to sources regarding Mats Sundin here at the rink, and there is so much more to this still hanging out there right now.
As one source put it, "Mats and the team he is talking to know exactly what they are doing and are primed for a return much sooner than expected."

Great to be back at a hockey game.
Sitting up here with Julie and Meltzer and definitely enjoying the return of this great game.
Interesting watching Rolston as a Devil once again. I know he played here a long time back, but seriously, it is one of those time warp situations. Rolston is playing point on the power play tonight so far in this penalty filled affair...
