According to a source Matthew Barnaby may be announced soon as the replacement for Barry Melrose at ESPN, and Pierre Lebrun will be joining ESPN.com as a hockey writer as well.

I have many more opinions about this, but I will reserve them for now until this news becomes official.

I am currently tying up the loose ends on a major blog, but one of my sources involving what has been called to me by three other sources as, "Serious Upper Management Leafs News" has yet to get back to me.

UPDATE:

A source has gotten back to me to inform me that the Leafs GM job may be "filled by someone currently outside the organization" by next Friday, the 15th of August.

In other rumour news...

The Mats Sundin saga has really hit the "dog days" (no offense Burt). The latest is JP Barry telling TSN that his client isn't close to making a decision.

When it comes to making a decision timelines are pointless. You decide and then you have decided. As ridiculous as this sounds it is the equivalent of someone asking you to join them for a movie tonight and you telling them that you will decide after work..and you saying to them, "Ok, great...I'll just wait for you to decide to decide...hey thanks. just awesome!"

Just be leery of reading too much into this. Mats has made it known that he wants to play the entire season. That will require a decision in the next 7-10 days according to JP himself a week ago. so......

A source of mine continues to tell me that the answer is simple, and that Mats is just diverting pressure. It is pretty obvious to me as well that Mats, like Foppa next year will go from completely undecided to signed to a multi-year deal in a matter of hours.

I will go on the record as saying that a decision is FAR more imminent than anyone wants us to believe...

Speaking of Forsberg....

He is skating and looking pretty healthy according to reports in Sweden. Could we see an earlier return? and also does this mean that Forsberg will be guaranteed to be joining Avs? Peter has said he would only return to the Avs, however I am curious if the Avs are willing to do an entire season of Foppa.

That will be the interesting factor should Peter suddenly become available prior to the start of the season.

Two other teams that would love Peter are two of the teams in the Sundin sweeps...NYR and Vancouver...However, an outside candidate could be a team that is looking more and more appealing these days...Chicago. The Hawks have twice made serious pitches for Forsberg.

`more to come...chasing a Bouwmeester rumour..

The Buzzcast will return tomorrow at 5pm
