The Flyers have approximately 9 million is cap space correct if everyone is LTIR and such. But does that number also include Schenn at his 3.1? Or is that calculating it as if there is a bonus cushion or that Schenn doesn't reach the requirements for his bonus? Cause they could have more like 11MM if they don't count the bonuses he isn't going to reach.

The ltir doesn't go in effect until the season starts. Over the summer those LTIR salaries count minus 10%

If Homer gives up Schenner, I'm going to flip major poop. Every one of you will hear the rage originating out of peaceful Lancaster County.

I don't care if it's for Weber. Hell, I don't want Weber. Yes. I said it. I don't think or want Homer to trade for Weber.

Or Nash.

Or Ryan.

Or Stamkos.

Or Gretzky.

Or Gretzky's daughter.

KEEP THIS TEAM TOGETHER.

Boruk is clueless. If Weber doesn't want to play in Nashville, why would he sign an Offer Sheet?

I probably would do it for weber, yes but that's because A. Weber is a very rare player and B. the Flyers have a need on the Blueline.

His offensive upside is too limited imho.

not really sure why he doesn't get any looks on the power play anymore. he scored 26 point on the pp from 07-09. obviously not numbers that wow you, but he's got the ability to be a decent performer there.

Not exactly Nash's forte.
- Pecafan Fan

Exactly so then not only do we compound our woeful team defense but we throw an 8 million dollar cap hit on it, no thanks. But hey keep driving the Price up for him homer. Can't wait for Sather to trade half the Rangers away for this guy that'll make Tortorella's head explode.

Agreed. He looked good, not great, from the half-wall.

Brad Richards and Rick Nash on the powerplay would be pretty effin' deadly, though.

Ship a pick or two out for a Meszaros-esque backender at a 3-3.5 maybe 4 mil hit and shift Coburn up to the first pairing.

Grab a 4th line center that can kill penalties and win draws, as well as play well in the D zone.

Problem solved.

And we still have Schenn, Cooter, Czech, Read, JVR, et al.

That brings me to another point.

DON'T TRADE JVR.

Exactly. And with Carter not there to have his feet broken, it should work now.

(I know it was Pronger's shot that broke Jeff's foot)

No. Little known fact: John Boruk personally beams CSN's signal to the local cable stations.

If you're talking Nash, it is bad thinking, because it strangles your cap which inhibits your ability to maintain depth. We should know by now that any player is a hit away from calling it a career. You need a roster that is deep. To get Nash you're going to have to give up the minimum of two roster players.

Scoring isn't an issue for the flyers, it's playing responsibly for 200 feet of ice.

I've been adamant about the folly of pursuing JBo, Garrison I'd be willing to pursue yes, it's a risky move but I think he'll still be able to thrive here. Suter you're going to have to almost double what you'd have to pay Garrison (seemingly) and finally Weber, if the deal is right then yes—defenseman are worth much more than forwards.

Overpaying for forwards now would be fool's gold.

- JoeRussomanno

First, Nash isn't an over 35 deal so if he got hit, he could retire without his cap hit counting anymore against the Flyers cap. Secondly, if you traded JVR (4.25MM) and Bob (1.75MM) you've just took away 6 million of Nash's 7.8. You would now have only added 1.8 million to your salary cap. Factor in further the EL contract at some point you would have to give your first round pick (obviously doesn't mean this year, but you would hope your first rounder would be on the team sooner than later) and you are looking at around what: 1MM-1.3MM? Theoretically you have traded to Columbus any where from 7 to 7.3 million of Nash's cap space. You don't need to add a forward to the lineup because JVR is replaced by Nash. You do need a back up goalie which could be had for .875MM (which is what Marty Biron's cap hit was with the Rags this past year). At most you added Rick Nash to the team at the cost of a late 1st rounder (which hurts) and a 1.6 (max) a salary equivalent to most 3rd and 4th line players.

Frankly, the deal doesn't necessarily hurt the Flyers as it is mostl a wash each way, putting them in essentially the same position they would have been next offseason when Weber is a free agent and guys need new contracts and Timonen's money coming off the books.

Is Adam Oates still playing?

The only downside to the Flyer's silly season is that we are always facing cap issues. No different this year.
