Dumba's name has been coming up a lot in various conversations around Winnipeg. Ninth in this draft is a weird spot as the teams before really dictate who or what you may get have available of a decent top 10.

My preference is Reinhart and I think that's where it goes too. Faska would be nice though.

Do you not think the success of Karlsson and other puck moving Dmen who are great skaters makes Dumba a possibility to be taken higher.

I have Faksa gone at 8, and Reinhart a bit higher--- but with this draft, nothing will surprise me. It's more of a "tiered" draft, where positional wants come into play more because there's not a whole lot of definition in perceived talent.

Yes and no. There's a couple great skating Dmen in this draft --- Rielly being the cream of the crop, but Trouba and Murray are as well.

Rielly is more in the ilk of a Karlsson whereas Trouba is a more aggressive physical player like Dumba, and Murray reminds me of a Suter.

Teams still seem to prefer the old school Dmen with size and physical abilities. Murphy dropped like a sack of potatoes last year and was likely a Top 3 talent.

Ryan Murphy dropped last year... I think with Dumba the Blue Jackets are the first big question and the Islanders the 2nd.

The BJ's draft pick will largely have to do with the Nash return. Do they go forward with Galchenyuk or Forsberg or D with Murray?

If BJ go D and take Murray, I think the Islanders then either take Dumba or Reinhart.

As high risk as he is at least he doesn't have the injury problems that the others do. Might be a safer pick on that alone.

This guy sounds like the 2nd best Dman in the draft. Reinhart is big but has less upside. Smaller guys with more skill I would take over a bigger guy with less skill. It's not a massive difference anyway. I love how 6'-0" is small now a days. 180lbs sure but he's got a couple years before hitting the NHL anyway right?

Surprisingly, I have him as my 5th best Dman.

I like Trouba the best, but I really like Ceci and Reinhart a lot too. Murray's in the mix as well.

I'm just not that huge on Dumba at the moment.

Hey Brian, im a long time reader and have been very impressed with your assessments of prospects. So my question for you is where do you have Zach O'Brien of acadie Bathurst going in the draft? And also what is your analysis of him?

Thanks for taking time to answer my question and keep up the awesome work.

Hard to say-- I know a couple teams including Vancouver and Toronto have inquired about him. He's a small guy, but he's gut very good vision and offensive instincts. Being as small as he he is, and having heavy feet (a tad slow), doesn't help.

He did put up points, so I won't be surprised to see a team take a flyer late (5-6 round), but if he doesn't, he'll get an invite to a development camp somewhere.

Says who? Nobody thought Fowler would be available at 12, but he was.

And this year is one of the more unpredictable drafts. Dumba is part of the top tier of Dmen with Murray/Trouba/Reinhart/Ceci/Rielly. So there is 6 Dmen a lone. And then you add the top tier of forwards in Yakupov/Galchenyuk/Forsberg/Grigorenko and that's 10 names who could concievabley go anywhere. Dumba could go to Columbus at 2, he could go 10th to Tamba Bay. It's way too hard to say "no way" to him being available at 9.

I think the only players we can absolutely won't be available are Yakupov and Murray

I have to say this really is to me one of the most interesting drafts, in past years I would turn on the tv when Toronto picks and turn it off when they finished there 1st pick. This year I might have it running in the background while I do stuff.

hey Huddle, thought you would be interested to know that according to a Pittsburgh sports rumor page (generally well connected), the Penguins brass would be very happy to see Wilson on the board at 22.

might even trade up to get him...
