Yes, folks, I understand New Jersey will likely forfeit this year's draft pick from the Kovalchuk debacle.

Do you really?

No, he definitely has skill.

We'll all get a much better projection how good he could potentially be through his first two years at the NCAA level.

It'd be different if he spent the whole year in the USHL, but he didn't even play 20 games.

I've seen him play a few times. He's intriguing. I don't know much about him other then he's got pretty good vision, and that he's a beanpole.

So what you guys are saying is he is the perfect pick for a team that is going to forefit the pick anyway.

I didn't know that you can make the pick and then just forefit the player at a later date. Works for everyone

From the moment the Devils made the playoffs, the Devils laid off all their scouts. I don't think that this pick is unlikely, I think it won't happen. Period. (now, do I just say period, because I actually ended the sentence with a period, then said period and then added another period. That’s a lot of finality)

...I'm confused whether this is meant to be interpreted literally or figuratively.

Thank god you're not one of the idiots who would say the Devils are going to draft a defensemen or a goaltender because it's their weak points on their current roster, but fail to realize the Devils offensive prospects are very bare and the Devils have 3 goalies, technically four, in their system, along with a poopload of defensemen.

sarcastically... because the moment they made the playoffs, that pick instantly became worse than what it would be next year (so they told their scouts to go home). This years draft isn't of the same upper caliber as next year so the risk here is less than holding out for next year.

I get where you're going. But yeah, it's always risk to wait till next year and next year being the year you would have to forfeit it, or at least I believe it is.

Where the Devils are picking, and looking at this year's draft versus next year, it has to be a no brainer right now. This draft isn't as deep as it was last year and doesn't boast the exceptionally high end talent of next year so you remove the gamble.

Does anyone know when New Jersey has to decide if they are picking or not. Could they on the floor and say, yah we want to draft because "X" player fell to us or do they have to tell the league by a certain date?
