Paranoid was a #1 album in 1970 in the UK.

But yeah, they totally had to wait for Iron Maiden to have an album in 1980 before they were mainstream. Black Sabbath was "way too dark" to be mainstream and #1 in 1970.

Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath both had their part in it.
