It was Renee Poussaint who ruined "The Miracle" for us in the DC area. Maybe there was an anchor in each market who decided to spoil the fun.

I was up at the local hockey rink late in the afternoon and they were listening to it on the radio there. I knew the score before I watched the game bit I still had butterflies thinking that we might have heard the results incorrectly.

The following Sunday I had an early morning game and returned home just in time to watch the last period against Finland.

VCRs were a rare luxury that we were not privileged to at that time.

I don't recall it being ruined by a local newscaster, but I do remember watching the game with my dad, on our old clunky TV. We were torn between nerves, excitement and euphoria.

It was amazing how easily that game could be packaged and sold as good vs evil. The sad thing is, with the Olympics being open to NHL participation, there's no way we ever see such a huge upset again.

It would take something like Switzerland getting to the finals and beating Canada to compare to the Miracle on Ice.

Hey Rob, do you still think the Rangers are going to miss the playoffs?
