leafs should at least, have a good of a season as they did last year...... it's other teams in the conference that have improved their rosters more than the leafs have, who will determine whether the leafs fluke themselves into the playoffs again.

Despite the fact that the Sens had a great regular season despite an incredible number of injuries to key players coming down the stretch. Despite the fact that the Sens had a great playoff run. Everybody knows, says the Leaf fan, the Leafs had the best season ever. Loser talk. Heard it before. The fall is going to be bitter.

Does that include Ottawa?

Again, yet another comment that is so easily countered it makes your argument weaker.

The fact that you can't find anything that actually makes sense and sticks just makes me believe that you and Spatso both know the Leafs are in a much better position than the Sens.

You guys really are not very good at this.

"The Ottawa Senators made a stunning run in the post-season, coming within a single goal of the Stanley Cup final. And while there is much to celebrate surrounding the greatness of Erik Karlsson, the resiliency of Craig Anderson and Clarke MacArthur, and the tactical forcefulness of coach Guy Boucher, it’s worth noting that the future looks pretty bright in Ottawa, too.
From two-way center Colin White to Memorial Cup champion Logan Brown, the Sens have some nice pieces up front. On the back end, they have the newly-crowned best defenseman in all of junior: Thomas Chabot."

The people cheering most for MacArthur's resiliency and good health are Leafs fans.

He is a vital part of the wasted 22 milion. If he retires, you only have 18 or so million in garbage salary that you'll have to give up your future, just to get rid of.

Who in the East, particularly the Atlantic has really improved?

Buffalo and Tampa in the Atlantic. If the Habs can resign Markov or a similar player they should stay around the same. Boston didn't enter the UFA market(thank (frank)) at all so they are relaying on the youth and better fortunes on the injury front so they might stay around the same. Leafs are a wildcard, impossible to know if the young trio will suffer a slight regression which is natural or take another step. If they improve they should be #2 or #3 in the division. Ottawa is another wildcard. If Anderson is healthy they can system themselves back into the playoffs. Florida and Detriot should be #7 and #8 respectively.

I think Tampa Bay overall are the early favourites in the division.

What did Tampa do to improve? I know they signed some guys to good contracts thanks to the Florida State Tax. I feel like they made a good signing or trade or something but I can't remember what it was...

This should be the opening day lineup barring some unforseen trades. I do wonder if Marchenko will be replaced by Franson.

I could get behind the Leafs signing up Markov and Franson for 1-02 year contracts, if they can fit them under the cap.

Would give them a legit d-corps, and give the youngsters more development time, without taking anything away from a lethal looking forward corps.

edit: If Fehr has an unfortunate totally real injury that requires LTIR, this is doable(6M to Markov, 1.5 to Franson)

I love how the Leafs fluked in to the playoffs, but the Senators were deserving participants with a whopping three more points.
