someday you may actually experience your team winning a round or two and you will see how very exciting it is!
- spatso

Most of us have experienced that. It was followed by a prolonged period of futility because our team that was built to win then, failed and there was not much left to build on.

That story is going to feel very familiar to you.

I think Leaf fans are in for a very rude shock. Sens will add Chabot, Harpur and White into their line up next fall. All of them are highly skilled and will be allowed to grow their game over the year.

Hope you like yoplait, beeeeeotch.

that's how it works in the summer with senaturds fans.

in the season it's all "very dman makes mistakes, you're just focusing on his" over and over and over. this leadership stuff is senaturds summer talk.

Harpur's upside is Hal Gill.

Chabot played against kids, in the minors but was somehow anointed the best Dman not in the NHL

White is not as good as Bracco

In order for teams to win it all they need to have at least one truly outstanding talent that provides leadership.

A symbol of the Sens leadership and iron will is the picture of Karlsson in a wheel chair post surgery. This is the standard everyone is going to have to live up to next year.

There are a certain class of athletes that simply will themselves and their team mates to win. I have always thought Karlsson was that kind of player. This is the first year the Sens have been explicitly built around him. Next year it will be even more.

Seems like the Sens fans on this board are really setting themselves up for a potential let down. Chabot is a good prospect, but that doesn't guarantee him success in the NHL. Don't know much about Harpur, but if he was a legitimate top prospect you'd think his name would be more well known. Logan Brown, who knows. Could be a decent NHL, could be a fringe 4th liner. Colin White should make the NHL and contribute, but I can't imagine he will be any better than Kyle Turris, who would be Toronto's third best centre. Fourth if Nylander makes the switch. There's potential, but that's about it. No guarantees.

You guys must lie awake at night trying to make this stuff up. At the same time you try to avoid having to face the reality that the Sens went to double overtime in game 7 of the ECF.

But, important for you not to let reality alter your pipe dream.

This is pretty lame.

I try to put some modest effort into my commentary.

Your effort is pretty dull, even for a Leaf fan. You don't need to say something brilliant. Just try and say things that are original to you and consistent with your values.

Would you really be happy to have what you wrote above immortalized on your tombstone. What an epitaph for someone who never had even a trace of an original thought.

I've said multiple times that Sens fans should be proud of the season their team had. I personally believe that it was a one time success run, but we will see. All I'm saying is I think you're propping up the talent level of your prospects pool with such lofty expectations. Chances are they won't meet them.

Sens had a great playoff run but thats about it. The fact they were the only team with a minus goal differential that made the playoffs speaks volumes about how good they really are as a team.

What a great line. "Sens had a great playoff run but thats about it."

Think about and compare it with other great statements.

"Leafs had an awesome first round playoff series against Boston, they dominated most of game seven, but they made them play the third period."

Look there are rules for summer talk. You can't disparage genuine accomplishment any more than you can rewrite a history. Sens had a great year.

You are allowed to speculate on next year and project a lesser result, that is entirely fair. But, the Sens had a most wonderful season, we are still fully immersed in the after glow of their accomplishment.

And, we believe, it sets us up for an even larger scale of achievement next year.

Now this is a fair and entirely reasonable comment. It serves as a useful bench mark for future discussion. How much worse (or better) will the Sens be next year?

You're a (frank)ing idiot. The Sens didn't have a great regular season. After 82 games 16 teams made the playoffs. Only one of those teams had given up more goals than they scored. If they makes them great then summer talk has no rules. Just a giant idiot who makes shít up as it's convenient for him.

You've got goal differential burned into your brain, and you can't get it out.

The Senators played a system, based on defense first, that worked to the point that they made it to the ECFs.

The system worked so well that the Senators never lost more than two consecutive games in a row all last season

That shows exactly how good their team is, but your little mind can't comprehend that.

On the other hand, the leafs used a system that allowed them to back into the last WC spot, and bounced in the first round. A pretty good step up from the previous season, when they intentionally tanked, and were lucky enough to secure the number one pick. Next season will be the true test of the leafs.

I am enjoying the Leaf fans enjoying the draft. As you know I give full credit to Shanahan and his team for reversing a long history of Leaf confusion over how to build a competitive team. However, it is also amusing to see some Leaf fans thinking that a single draft will immediately make them contenders. Edmonton, for example, have had 4 number 1 picks over the last 6 years including a generational player in McDavid. Yet, they have still not made the playoffs. Leafs have a few more years of pain before they can break out.

Its a telling stat. In almost all sports the goal is to outscore the opponent. Which results in wins. When your scoring less than youre giving up its hard to be considered a great team. Pretty simple concempt even for dolts like SpatsD0pps.

Next season is just another step for the Leafs. True tests will come as the rookies mature and gain experience.

So would you consider a team, that ends the regular season with a minus goal differential, and some how managed to get into the Stanley Cup finals, and actually win the Cup a legitimate Cup Champions, or a lucky/fluky champion?

Look, it is pretty straight forward. The Leafs are the last place team in the league and they are about to discover how little impact a group of 18 and 19 year old players have once the hard pace of the NHL kicks in. This is the normal summer buzz of the blue and white. It is completely gone by Christmas and we will see the same pattern next summer.

Much of the bravado is intended to mask the loser results of the past years. But the scoreboard does not lie. The Leafs had the worst record in the NHL. As they stand right now, they are actually a lot less competitive than what they were at this time last year. So get ready for the same result next year.

Id use the traditional term. Cinderella team.

Id say they had a great playoff run but an average regular season. Especially if its not a team with a recent history of cup win(s) and deep consistent playoff runs.
