I think it's a move that should barely make the news.

I would have rather spent a lower pick for a guy like Fehr. Surprising he's on waivers.

Stalberg for a 3rd ain't bad either, IMO.

edit: damn, the # of picks Ottawa has left makes it look pretty gross.

Maybe Melnyk doesn't want to fly any staff to the draft? Just a few more to go?

You are wiser than the average blue and white. You would know that Craig Button's most recent top 50 prospects outside the NHL includes 4 Sens and 0 Leafs. It is okay, I won't tell anybody. The listing has been around for a few weeks and I am surprised that one of the kool aid drinkers had not stumbled into it earlier.

I think this is also the article where Button says the Sens have the best prospects of Canadian team. I read it awhile ago and let it fester. Good day for someone to post it.

Look at the top rookie scorers in the NHL. Is it really terrible news the Leafs had 0 prospects in his top 50 outside the NHL? Connor Brown is our 5th best rookie. He'd be the top rookie on the majority of NHL teams. The Leafs are stacked.

12 points in almost 60 games. Why are they trading for these guys????

They're down to 8 draft picks in the next TWO drafts.

Leafs have 11 in 2018 right now alone. 7 in 2017.

They really don't seem to care about the draft anymore.

- prock

can you blame them? what nhl player do they have under 24 that is in the nhl and a legit top player for now and the future? murray cant save them anymore.

no spatd0pps. Pagiroux doesnt count.

It is so long since the Leafs actually did a serious rebuild that fans forget it involves a deep dive and shot gun strategy. Yes, early on, you want to maximize the number of picks you have in the draft but only one or two players (rookies) break through once the core of the rebuild has been established. So, at some point, you need to start to target needs (e.g. Dman). Soon enough Leafs will deal picks and prospects to fill in holes. It is simply good asset management.

It is entirely silly for the Leafs to compete with the Coyotes for most draft picks.

I don't like to see a team trade 1st round picks. But it is not that significant for true contending teams (Washington, Pittsburg) to right their roster for a full run at the Holy Grail.

remember when the Oilers were tanking, to collect high draft lottery positions? leaf fans were dumping all over that strategy (because the leafs were building with trades and UFAs)......... fast forward to the Shanaplan, and now leaf fans claimed that any team that was not tanking was crazy, because tanking was the only way to do a proper re-build. fast forward a few years from now, and when the leafs start trading prospects and picks to "load up" for a Cup run, then that will be the correct strategy to build a Cup contender.

It's all relative to what the leafs are doing at any given time, and no other team is doing anything right, except for the leafs .............. but the fact that haven't been to the Cup finals in 50 years totally contradicts their claims that the leafs are on the right track. JFJ was going to bring the Cup to toronto, then it was BB, and now it's the (abadonded) Shanaplan ................ lather, rise & repeat.

On another note : It was November of 1758 when General John Forbes and George Washington rode into what’s now Point State Park and found the smoldering ruins of Fort Duquesne. They had to name it something, and it seemed like a good idea to name it for their boss, William Pitt the Elder.

Forbes was Scottish so instead of "burg", he went with "burgh". It’s pronounced like borough; think of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, Masich said.

From there on, Pittsburgh was usually spelled with an H, but sometimes without.

By the 1800s, some people were calling the city Pittsburg instead of Pittsburgh, but the turning point came in 1890. That’s when the U.S. Board on Geographic Names decided to standardize names in America.

He said the board was probably trying to be helpful and make things easier for cartographers, post office workers and others who read handwritten letters and maps.

So cities named Pittsburg or Pittsburgh officially became Pittsburg.

But, Pittsburg-ers didn’t take it that way.

The board’s changes sparked a roughly 20-year saga to get the H back.

Official papers, maps, books and government documents respected the change. But many resisted and continued to spell Pittsburgh with an H. There was even a petition to the U.S. Congress.

So after growing pressure, the board reversed its decision in 1911.

Good chance #Sens will be offered a first for Lazar today. There are many reasons they should pass, including the fact it's a bad draft year

Don Brennan is one of the worst...Sens should take whatever they can get for him

its not very day you can get something for one of the worst producing players in the NHL

A lot of fans don't agree with tanking, from all fanbases. I don't really care what those people believe.

I personally can say I was very critical of Edmonton's management, not because of their methods, but more their execution. Specifically who they were drafting. i.e. ignoring their D for so long. I can't tell you how many conversations I had ripping the Oilers for their drafting. The response I got was normally "What were they supposed to do, leave Taylor Hall/Nugent-Hopkins/Yakupov on the table, and draft a Dman?" To which I replied "Yes, they were. Trade down if that's preferable to you".

Hard to know how things would have turned out had they done that. What would their team look like?

Ryan Murray instead of Yakupov?
Maybe Adam Larsson instead of Nugent-Hopkins?
Maybe Gudbranson instead of Hall?

Short of Hall/Gudbranson, I'd say they'd probably have been a better team. Until McDavid came along, because they probably wouldn't have gotten him, ironically.

But they still have issues with their D.

Him and Garrioch are basically published cheerleaders for the Sens are they not?

I think it's wishful thinking (delusional really) to think they'll get a first for Lazar. I really doubt it. Time will tell I guess though.
