leafs are the best at finding ways to collect "loser points", 11 so far, best in the league. Ottawa has a hard time scoring a tying goal to give them a chance to "at least get a loser point", and last night was good example of that .................. they had more than the last half of the third period to tie the game, and could not.
- D0PPELGANGER

I'll never understand this way of thinking. before 3 point games, these games would end in a tie 90% of the time. teams didn't want to give up the extra point. I can't imagine anyone would be on board with a team playing to a tie after OT and ten have them losing a point because of a shootout. in those cases each team would normally get one point.

it's not the losing team that is getting a point they wouldn't normally get. it's the winning team. in my opinion you should be looking at the teams with the most OT and shootout wins as the ig beneficiaries of 3 point games. those are the culprits getting the extra point not the losers 9f games that would normally end in a tie.

If you were the Ottawa GM, what would you do? Protect of expose Phaneuf?

just wondering

- D0PPELGANGER

Expose, hope he gets picked up.

Also, I'd be looking for a job with a franchise that has an owner who wants to win.

when you consider where he was drafted, the number of dmen in his draft still ahead of him (playing in the NHL), the odds, etc, there is a good chance (likely) he doesn't even become a first pairing dman.

melnyks makes me laugh. he's the fan boy that bought a team. but too broke to do anything with it.

remember when he was telling players that to sign with Ottawa you have to take a stanley cup discount???

well he doesn't have a choice because of the nmc.

but otherwise it's an easy answer. expose. I don't care if I had an extra spot I wasn't using to protect someone else I would still expose him.

I think he meant it in this sense:

2.regard (a possibility, fact, or person) as being unworthy of consideration because it lacks credibility.

I'm shocked that a player agent is looking out for his client's best interest ............he should be asking Dorion to allow Lazar to sell popcorn and beer during the games, instead of just sitting in the pressbox.

This is good point. There must be a website that shows adjusted standing, without the "winner/loser" points......... and how different the standings would be.

The GM has the option of asking him to waive his NMC for the purposes of the expansion draft ........... at least that is what the local sports talk radio guys are suggesting.

There would be advantages for doing this, and advantages if he was actually taken in the draft.

As far as I know, each team can lose only one player, so it all depends on who you think is going to be taken ......... and if you want to protect a player you think is most likely to be selected instead of taking a chance.

If Phaneuf waives his nmc, and they get to protect another player they think might be taken....... thinking that LV would pass on Phaneuf because of his age and or contract, then that is an advantage.

If Phaneuf waives his nmc, and is taken, then that frees up cap space, and keeps another player from being taken ........... so it is an interesting strategy.

or maybe he should ask his player to produce if he wants to play instead of asking for a trade. Lazars play in the NHL wont see him get ice time with anyone if he doesnt step up. Regardless if he fancies a trade or not. If his current scoring pace keeps up hell be selling popcorn and beer in no time. His one assist in 29 games isnt doing himself any favours.

I commented that he should have been left down in the AHL for the entire season, once he was sent there after training camp....... and noted that it was a mistake when he was brought up after not really getting his game in order in the AHL
