No I think the leaf fans are in a fantasy world, as they continue to "predict" the future, and assume that the leafs will be "in a better situation" than the Sens will be at that time (whenever that is) .......... but totally ignore the reality that the Senators, today have the NINTH best record in the NHL, while the leafs are sitting with the 22nd best record ............ and somehow can't bring themselves to acknowledge that the Senators are in a "better" situation today.

Part of the Leaf fan discouragement is they did not want this to be a great rookie year with so many great young players stepping up. Laine is a superb talent.
- spatso

I would like this to be elaborated on and explained. I think it's Sens fan discouragement to see the Leafs players playing a big role in making this a great rookie year. Unfortunately for Laine and the Sens his injury is going to take away the fun battle of who the 2nd best rookie forward is. Marner has it easy now but Tkachuk is coming on strong.

Actually NHL.com/TSN includes Shootout winner as a goal for/against

So the Leafs are actually +4 and Sens -3
Shot differential also in the leafs Favour.

http://www.espn.com/nhl/statistics/team

Team sv% also rising for the Leafs almost the same as sens.

Everything points to a Strong second half for the Leafs
- senstroll

Get over it. It is always about scoreboard. Nobody quotes the loser numbers other than to pretend that losing with hope is more fun than losing without hope.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. the sens are a big steaming pile of dog poop.

they're terrible.

their team sucks. their prospects as a group arent very good. their fans sucks and seem to be jumping ship in droves. their organization is a total joke that claims dead franchises victories from 100 years ago. their owner is an idiot that sends Trojans out on the ice to do retarded introductions, claims he had forensic evidence about injuries, and chases team captains away.

they're honestly a total embarrassment.

It's not summer. It's not December. It must be stage 5.

Leafs didn't seem their usual self last night. I'm not sure if it was fatigue or simply that Ottawa needed the win more and came out guns blazing. It was a rare night where toronto got outplayed and won. Good game though.
- systemtool

After watching their previous two games (EDM & PITT) they looked a little flat in comparison .......... and perhaps they took the leafs too lightly, thinking the 2nd game of a b2b was going to work in their favour, and it did not turn out that way. Sure there was a goal post or two, but that happens in hockey, just would have liked to have seen a little more energy in their game, for 60 mins. I saw this coming, did not want it to come true, but it did, and they should know better by now.

Think there might be, or there should be, a few changes in the line combinations.

Also I think they, as a team, should just forget about MacArthur getting back in the line up this season ........... if he does, it'll take one hard check to put him right back out, so it would be better not to count on his return.

The timetable for Anderson's return keeps on moving into the future, and they should assume he too is gone for the season, and play under both of these assumptions.

It's been YEARS since an organization has brought up this many great rookies at one time. The Leafs have the best young talent in the entire NHL.
- RogerRoeper

I've only watched the two games vs the Sens, and Awesome Matthews really stood out in game one, not so much in last nights game......... and neither did anyone else on the leafs, besides the new back up.

FYI the Leafs are above the Sens in the standings.

FYI, my post was referring to what I had posted prior to last nights game, and the leafs were behind them in standing at that time.

Context my friend.

Matthews had one of his worst games imo. Thought Bozak Marner and Kadri looked solid. Same with Brown and Hyman.

Leafs really took it to the Rangers Friday. I'm surprised they didn't come out flat after that effort.

What's more embarrassing, is an "original six" team that has not won anything since the NHL expanded from 6 teams, 50 years ago , but a segment of their fans act as if they have been a perennial contender for those 50 years .......... and the collective exuberation, on this thread after last nights game clearly shows that they've been measuring their team by comparing it to the Senators.

All other "original six teams" have won Cups in the post "original six' era, but the leafs have floundered in those 50 years.

The Season is just half over, and anything could happen, but I for one will let those of you who've used the Sens as the standard to which they aspired to catch and pass in the standings, your day to bask in glory ............ I'm sure there's a parade being planned as we speak.

Both teams are tied in P% at .585, Ottawa has two more wins, so I could point out the obvious chicken egg thing, but I would not want to be the buzzkiller on this glorious day in leaf history.

Connor Brown is 4th in rookie scoring on the Leafs but is on pace for 20+ goals and playing really well. No team has had this situation with rookies in years.
Most team's fans would be delighted with just Brown as their top rookie.
Jack Eichel is considered a "Franchise Player". Matthews/Marner/Nylander are all on pace to outscore his rookie totals from last season.

The Leafs are in a fantastic situation right now to contend for a cup within 2 years. They still have great prospects who haven't even played yet. Guys like Kapanen and Leipsic would crack the rosters of a lot of NHL teams already.

The Sens are just not close to being in as good of a situation.

No. I'm just enjoying the Leafs being better than the Sens after the Sens fans have said that wouldn't happen or be close this season. This is the thread for that.

You sound bitter and rattled. Take a time out. Have a Kat Kat. And then a Snickers. Then some cheese to go with your whine.

Yeah that was just sad. Weird that poop from 50 year ago is the counter argument to today's team situations. The NHL is the NHL whether you go back to lesser teams or not. Just because your team wasnt around it doesnt take away from your rival teams history. Funny how he only goes back to a convenient time. Somehow only half of Leafs history counts. But their 2nd most cups won doesn't. Funny how that works.

Remember D0pps was the same guy updating the winning % and standings and playoff odds not long ago. Until the numbers no longer favoured the Sens. Yet we can't be happy about a Leaf win over the Sens in a Leafs vs Sens thread. Go figure.

Unless you're making a blt I see no correlation between bacon consumption and tomato consumption.

But sometimes it's hard to spot correlations that others see as obvious. Like how sens fans didn't understand that being continuously outplayed and having rotten underlying stats would correlate with massive regression.
