Auston Matthews is really good..In a few years I dont think its going to even be a discussion on who the leafs Should have taken... Watch him every game and its clear why

Absolute star in the making. He controls the play just about every shift he's on the ice. No holes in his game. Fast, smart, works hard, plays both ends of the ice, passes well, hell of a shot, big, strong, plays physical and throws his weight around.

No doubt in my mind he was the number 1 choice. He's the kind of player you build a true contender around. He's going to be one tier down from the Crosby/McDavid ilk, and has Art Ross, Selke, and Hart Trophy contending projections. He's just ridiculously good.

I've never understood what they see in Cody Ceci. I mean, his production was okay, nothing special, on a run and gun team. But he's been pretty much an abortion defensively for the most part. Sens fans know it too..... if I had a quarter for every time I heard them talk about how Dion Phaneuf would stabilize that pairing, I'd be a rich man. So it clearly was obvious to them, they were just trying to stay positive and think he would eventually learn. He's still young, and he may, but that pairing is disgusting, an absolute failure.

The sens have went a bunch of years whiffing on 1st round picks..the more you do that the more you need to think positive about some of them and hope/pray they turn out. We are Leaf fans...experts in this field

Ironically, Zibanejad is the best of the top bunch.

Can say I consider Pagiroux a top 6 player. He scored 43 points last year, but looks like you can more comforably count on him for 30 to 35. I consider him a bottom 6 pest that adds a little scoring.

Stone and Hoffman make for decent top 6 wingers.

Where have you been? He broke into the NHL at a blistering pace, with 11 goals in his first 14 games. He's got a nasty shot. It was unsustainable, he was riding a retardedly high shooting%, and he's had 6 in his last 18 games. But that's still close to a 30 goal pace over an 82 game season. Amazing for a rookie.

He looks to have a long prolific career ahead of him as a sniper.

and you seen the kid play?

I wouldn't say he's great all over the ice. He's not bad. But give him a shot in front of the net, and it's buried. You can't give him space and time in front of the net.

Only in the games against the Bruins this year and in previous international play. Obviously he's got some elite offensive skill and a large frame. Could be in the same vein as his idol Ovechkin in terms of skill set of he continues to develop in the physical parts of the game.

I'd take him in a heartbeat obviously, same with Matthews. Comparing the two is kind of dumb because they play different positions and have different roles within a game.

Doesn't have Ovechkin's wheels or physical game. Not really comparable. More of a Heatley or Hull than an Ovechkin.

I don't know who you're trying to convince here. The leafs took the player that every other team would have taken if they had won the lottery. The discussion has been over, there is no need to try and convince anyone, including spatso, otherwise.

Matthews is a first line center, that all teams that hope to contend for the Cup needs, it was a no brainer of a pick.

Yes, but he's got better hands than Ovechkin. His stickhandling skills are pretty top notch.

I am firmly in the Crosby camp in that old debate but its weird to compare them anyway due to the same reasons I listed for Matthews/Laine but I've come to appreciate Ovechkin a bit more at this point of his career. Greatest goal scorer of his generation no doubt.

I'd take Crosby over him every day of the week too but you're right about him being the best goal scorer of his generation. He's won the scoring title 6 times, that ties Phil Esposito for 2nd best. Only Bobby Hull lead the league in goals more times doing it 7 times.

I'm not underrated him he's ridiculous. he's best goal scorer of this generation hands down. just saying, I think laine has better hands.

just about everything else goes to ovie. Laine will probably never be as good as ovechkin. but heven oestrogen have pretty sick hands.
