down 4 to 1 going into the 3rd, looking like amother notch in the loss column for the Sens. 4 of their last 6 now.

it should be getting quite clear that the early season wins were only due to the surprisingly easy schedule. the roster clearly doesn't measure up. as originally expected, by Xmas they'll be out of a playoff spot and by all star break out of contention.

I checked the score noticed Silfverberg got his 12th assist. Brassard and Ryan with 14 combined. Interesting. Also how did the Ducks get Ritchie. I forget. Was it from Dallas?

both players traded for Bobby Ryan are outscoring him and their salaries added together is significantly lower.

what a total disaster.

I remember about a week or so ago Spatso was telling the world how the Sens and Habs were on part as the best teams in the east.

I watched the whole Sens game yesterday. LA almost completely shut them down. Doughty once again proving to be the best dman in the league.

Yeah, the two wins vs Montreal, one vs the Oilers, one vs the Kings, one vs the Flyers, one vs the Rangers and the one vs the Sharks were part of "surprisingly easy schedule" and must have been 100% lucky bounces or something, right?

Let's just put this in perspective, the leafs and Senators (excluding each other) will play the same schedule, against the same teams, number of games, home and away. In your little fantasy world, the leafs have a tougher schedule than the Senators ........... and why would that be?

If he did, then that would be so silly.

As the Senators sit at 7th in the Conference.

If he was talking division (second still) then perhaps he would have a leg to stand on ............. but to secure a playoff spot, standings within the conference factors in a lot more when talking about either Ontario team, BOTH who only, under the best situations, would be looking at a WC position, when talking about chances of making the playoffs.

He's made it pretty clear it was the first part of the schedule that was easy, and that the senators would be falling off around this time. Seems like his prediction is looking accurate.

However, the opponent you face is only one part of the schedule, the other being the pacing of the games. Because of how busy the ACC is, the Leafs always have a weird schedule, filled with long gaps and then a flurry of games. One of the drawbacks of being in a city where things happen.

Leafs not going to be close to a PO spot this year. Sens will likely be. But unless they start scoring more than they give up, regardless of the standings, they aren't making it either imo.

I don't disagree with you. Ottawa needs more 5vs5 scoring, and can't keep using the excuses of "this guy is playing through an injury" or "when this guy gets back from injury" ........ they need to focus on this during practice, as they did recently for the PP, which has improved.

I alluded to the Conference, and it does not take a rocket surgeon to figure out that both WC spots are more than likely going to be going to teams in the Metro. Division, so finishing third in their division is going to be a tall order for Ottawa, whose "playoff odds" have dropped down to 36.4% (roughly the same as the leafs at 34.3 %) after this past road trip, that I predicted would be indicator of how they stand in the playoff hunt.

BTW, watched some of the TFC loss on Saturday ..... 19 shots on goal for TFC vs ZERO for Seattle........... then the stupid PKs.

I said it before the season started, and stick by it. I don't think either will be a playoff team, and I think they both end up very close in the standings.

So I guess where we disagree is how close they'll be. I suspect they're withing 4 or 5 points of each at seasons end. And I still it's very possible the Leafs end up ahead of the Sens.

As with any young team, there will be lots of ups and downs for the Leafs. As with any old team like the Sens, the year will be a grind for them. And with little depth, I think many fans will be singing the same tune come May. "It's all about our injuries. If we were healthy we are way better, we are a playoff team for sure".

Then management will try send out some more draft picks for vets. Sens fans will talk of a better year next year. Rinse. Repeat.

I'm leaning towards Ottawa finishing ahead of toronto in the standings, but with injuries, or no injuries, anything could happen I guess.

toronto's average age of 26.566 yrs old, is not much younger than Ottawa's average age of 27.605 yrs old..... roughly one year difference, you really should not using age as the defining difference between the two teams ........... I know you're grasping at the "younger" card, but you should be looking at overall NHL experience for an excuse to hang your hat on.

Grasping? The Leafs are a very young team. Very little experience, if that's what you prefer. Young teams tend to be pretty erratic.

the Sens are not a young team, they are pretty old by NHL standards. Several players playing fairly key roles, into their 30s (Phaneuf, Methot, Anderson - so half the top pairings, and starting goalie), more knocking on the door (Ryan is 29, Brassard is 29). That's a pretty good portion of the core of the Sens on the backside of their career.

I'm not sure why you try to contend the Leafs being a young team, and the Sens as not much older. There is a pretty clear difference. the Leafs have among the top youth in the league. The Sens don't really have any youth of significance at all.
