Going to be a long cold early winter in Ottawa as the schedule toughens up. Hope you have your mittens ready.

I think you said that before the season started.

The sens wont rebuild like the leafs have...the building is half empty when they are 10-6 ..Fans dont support them enough

The Sens fans I follow who dont just post the inflated NHL standing win % and go ZOMG! we great... but actually look at underlying numbers dont have the Sens boner spatso does.

Look I know you guys are disappointed. But, no need to take it out on us.

Many people forget that Dangle scored 25 goals in his rookie season. Perhaps Matthews will be able to recapture that first game moment.

On the other hand, maybe Laine may not be able to maintain his league leading pace.

Agreed. I suspect a 24% shooting pace is sustainable too. After ~17 games, I think it’s pretty clear Winnipeg got the better player.

And I’m not concerned about brown either. Interesting that there are 4-5 guys drafted in rounds 5-7 last year that are outscoring him. I’m not concerned about brown not passing these guys. He was a good pick.

exactly why i think laine can sustain his shooting percentage too! it's like we're thinking the same thing!

how about this for a test: are you not concerned about brown either?

I noticed Brown has been missing in a few game recently and I was wondering if he was hurt?

Brown had a very strong start and then tapered off and I was wondering if he was hurt. He did not dress for the last game.

Yay! That’s what I was thinking too!

That only leaves about a half a dozen guys drafted well after him that are outscoring him on a ppg pace; I don’t think that matters. I also don’t think it matters that an 11 overall pick is being outscored by a guy the leafs drafted in the 7th round. That doesn’t make any sense. He’ll pass all these guys no problem if he gets healthy.

i knew we were on the same page with this.

Sorry. It still does not change the fact that Sens prospects will likely be the captain and #1 and #2 centres on this year's Team USA at the World Juniors. And the #1 D and captain of Team Canada is likely a Sens prospect as well.

That’s really good!

The leafs 2 best junior aged rookies along with nylander are all in the top 5 of nhl rookie scoring. Unfortunately, for us leafs fans, none of them will be able to participate this year.

I would have much rather liked to have seen Mathews vs marner in a junior tournament this year. On the bright side, Mathews not being there moved brown up the depth chart!

As we have learned over the years, some players really benefit by taking the extra year in junior. Certainly did not hurt Marner to go back. But Matthews will come out of his funk. He is just clutching his stick too tight.

Nylander is 21 on his next birthday.

i was thinking the same thing about nylander! Marner and Mathews are 2 junior aged rookies! But all 3 are rookies in the top 5 in NHL rookie scoring!

just think when mathews gets out of his funk! Do you think his breakout will keep him in the top 5 of rookie scoring still?

And the benefits of keeping brown in the ohl are really paying off! He’s on pace to shatter his last season point total of 74 by 8 points!

Don't think so on Brown. He was on fire for the first month of the season. But he has not done much for awhile and did not dress for his last game. I think something is going on but can't find any background info on a possible injury.

Brown scored 74 points in 59 games last year, a 1.25 ppg pace!

Brown is scoring at 1.4 ppg pace this year! If he plays 59 games, he’ll be on pace to score 82 points!

Hooray for math!

He has been non existent on score sheet for about the last 5 games and did not dress for the last game. Don't know why?

why would the sens need to rebuild?

yes, there are a couple of older players (over 30), but with the exception of methot, phaneuf, and andy they're all depth guys who can easily be replaced.

the core of the team is still fairly young and either not yet in their prime or there now(karlsson, stone, turris, Hoffman, ceci, ryan, brassard, pageau, etc). I think with that core, a few signings/trade, and the development of some of the younger guys that Ottawa still has a few years before they need to tear it down.

the pieces are there, now they need to make the right moves to fill in the holes

- sensarmy_11

Because they don't look anything like a cup contending team, and there's nothing in the pipeline that would improve that.

of course! Do you remember when Cody Ceci took over the number 1 dman spot in the world cup!!! (against France and Belarus)

I think he must have been injured when they started to play the good teams.

Karlsson and Doughty played head to head a week ago and Karlsson was dominant.

The Senators are playing hockey at a .656 pace and Karlsson is the driving force behind the success. So, the Sens are playing great defensive hockey, goals against are way down and Karlsson is still logging big minutes. I don"t think your assumptions know how to provide for those realities.

- spatso

Didn't Matthews make Karlsson look like a chump last time they faced off head-to-head?

And that's why I'm not concerned. We don't know why a sub-100 point junior player hasn't shown significant improvement. Or why he's being outscored by several players from his draft year that were drafted well after him. But he was drafted 11th OA and he is big. He's a good pick.

Must be injured. Any time any Sens player or prospect is underperforming to against Spatso's expectations, must be injured.

They yapped about Karlsson being injured for 3 years after his achilles injury.

Sens fans pull out the injury card and cry more than any other fanbase, AINEC.

Yes, he did a great job resting Morgan Rielly for better teams. Great benchwarmer against the best teams. All around, couldn't ask for more.
