Karlsson's defensive shortcoming are overblown by some, but he is not by any means a good defensive player, in fact he slants towards the poor side of defensive play. He's phenomenal offensively and with the puck, but he's not the two way monster that Doughty is, nor was Karlsson better last year overall than Doughty was.
- MJL

More observation than metrics, which should be the primary method of evaluating players, of the games I've seen Karlsson play. No player in the NHL was on the ice for more goals against at 5 on 5 play than Karlsson was. Have to look at all the factors involved there, as certainly Karlsson can't be blamed for every single goal against. Ottawa is not a good defensive team, so that certainly doesn't help him, and you could say that he's being asked to play a certain way, that is not conducive to defensive play, to try and give his team a chance to win. Even with all that said, in my opinion, I can't say he's a good defensive player, or the best defenseman in the NHL, when he's on the ice for the most goals against of any player in the entire league, at 5 on 5 play. He's certainly the best defenseman offensively, and with the puck in the league.
- MJL

I don't think Karlsson's offensive contributions come close to tilting the scale in his favor. Karlsson was 5th in the league in ES points scored, yet finished as a minus player. You simply can't be on the ice and have the most 5 on 5 goals scored against your team when you're on the ice, and be considered the best defenseman in the league, unless of course you want to completely ignore the defensive side of the puck. Doughty is dominant in all 3 zones of the ice.

Toronto has the best farm system in the NHL and it isn't close. Based on my prospect definitions, there are zero reasonable arguments for anyone to even be in the same conversation. Not only do they have a ton of elite talent in players like Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander, but their depth is elite too. There are at least 20 prospects in this system that would fit in many other teams' top 10.

Seems like he left some room for debate?

Brian Murray did the rebuild on a few teams. Shortly after leaving the teams became serious contenders. I think the Sens are in great shape and other than Tampa they will be as strong as any team in the east.

Yup. He's the kinda guy who trades a 2nd and Zibby for Brassard. That's just an example. Not saying it would actually happen.

Would I consider Jake a prospect ? Not really , he has played a year, but at some point I may call him one seeing there is no real definition of what makes a player a prospect.

It's all subjective . Same as you saying Willie is a top 7 prospect.

Here is a list of players that haven't played in the NHL that I would prefer on my team over Nylander or Marmer. Not in any particular order.

Michael Dal Colle
Hayden Fluery
Travis Sanheim
Logan Brown
Pierre Luc Dubois
Laine Puljujarvi
Josh Ho Sang
Dylan Strome
Ivan Provorov
Brock Boeser
Mikhail Sergachev
Mathew Tkachuk
Ollie Juolevi
Nikita Tryamkin
Jakob Chychryn
Austen Mathews

Then I would start looking at Marmer or Willie.

So that list is just opinion.
If you asked 100 different people you would get 100 different answers
I am sure if you asked 20

that is one hell of an abortion of a post.

Look at all the horse crap Nucks prospects he slid in there. Tryamkin? Boeser?

Hell Marner jacked up Juolevi's stats enough to get him drafted in the first round.

Basically all of that list combined isn't worth either of those two guys, but that moron would take guys that were massively out scored by those two.

This is single handlidly the most epically moronic post on hockey buzz. Tough act to follow.

I believe he was trolling with the Nucks prospects, but the scary thing was I'm 90% sure he was being honest by putting in Dal Colle, Brown, Ho-Sang, et. on that list.

So (frank)ing bad. It's hilarious.....

Yeah the chl, ohl and memorial cup mvp who scored over 2pts/game.... But yeah I'd rather some scrub who barely (if at all )scored at a ppg.

Yes a 2nd round pick is better than a 7th, but Ottawa has had their share late round picks that have made the NHL, some have worked out better than others, some were used in trades, and a few that have potential.

Mark Stone 6th round
Mike Hoffman 5th round
Daniel Alfredsson 6th round
Brian Elliott 9th round
Mark Borowiecki 5th round
Erik Condra 7th round
Colin Greening 7th round

Ryan Dzingel 7th round
Francis Perron 7th round
