Meh, we paid market price for him at the time .He is still a solid 55 to 60 point winger that can score 30 goals. The contract isnt ideal, his original deal when we traded for him at 5.5 per is around where he should be .Oh well cant win them all

- top shelf 15

He hasn't scored 30 goals or 60 points since he played with Getzlaf and Perry, FIVE years ago now.

He's a low 20s, mid 50s point player.

Let's see how he fares playing with Brassard, a left handed center, which should improve his play, and the PP as well.

He's averaged just over 20 goals per season since he became a Senator, which is more than any right winger that plays for the leafs last season, so the trade for Brassard was made with improving Ryan's game in mind.

Was comparing Right Wingers on the leafs roster, last season, to Ryan, also a Right Winger.

Yes, Bobby Ryan would probably be the best right winger of either roster from last season. It's an area of weakness for the Leafs.

They're far better at left wing, last year and next, and are better at centre as well.

The interesting thing is, Leo Komarov played right wing last year. Contracts considered, I'd prefer him. There is talk Marner will play right wing, because we have so many centres (Kadri, Matthews, Nylander, Bozak, and more - even Komarov is a natural centre).

I don't see how playing with someone at their own level will help either player. Who's gonna drag them up?

You don't see how a left handed center will work better with a right winger than a right handed center?

Meh 56 points ,is only 4 points from 60 .Having a better possession/playmaking player in, Brassard or Turris as his center should help .I for one was the happiest guy when they traded the center ice version of Milan Micahlek, called that trade big time .Such a frustrating player

How is this even up for debate?

I agree that Ottawa's window probably has closed. But if they choose to rebuild, they are in a completely superior position to do so than the Leafs. I mean, compare their best trade assets with that of the Leafs. It's not even close.

Sens may be a better team this year.

Leafs have a brighter future.

You know it's true.

So you're going on the record as saying the leafs will finish higher in the Standings this coming season, than the Senators??

If so, I'll take that bet.

I don't see the Leafs being any stronger than the Oilers of 5 years ago. Do they have anyone as good as Taylor Hall? Don't think so. How many years did it take the Islanders to make the playoffs after drafting Tavares?

Don't think it serves any purpose to raise expectations based on the performance of a group of young players that have not yet played a full NHL season.

We don't know if Marner is the next Patrick Kane. Perhaps he is Sam Gagner, another of those sure fire first round Oiler picks of the past. I like how Shanahan is managing the rebuild. I don't like the way expectations are being raised by some fans and media when there is absolutely no reason to believe the Leafs will be any stronger than what they were last year.

Did not think the poster I was responding to, could explain it ............ and neither can you.

leafs were the worst team in the NHL last season, and it's going to be a long long road back to even contending for a wildcard spot ........ perhaps 5 more years , and then another few seasons before they can even think about winning a first round series, and by that time they'll be in Cap problems and management will have to start another re-build .......... the typical leaf cycle that we've all seen over the past two decades.
