He has been pretty meh in development camp ,but in terms of overall development to say they are disappointed that would be a stretch

Don't be silly, they used the same kind of comments about Ceci as a little push

“I think he realizes it,” Lee said. “He’s a very special player and he worked so hard last year. I just thought the impact he would have made on this camp would have been a bit more.”

They think he is going to make the team and they are just trying to push him to the next level. There are some very good players in camp, including some with NHL experience and they want him to "dominate." They believe he is a superstar and he is going to be a huge talent.

Right....for a bunch of years we listen to Leaf fans tell us how great Phil whatshisname is, he gets traded to the Penguins and Leaf fans pretend they never thought he was any good and now they forget he was ever even on their roster. Situation Leafs remains normal. Denial is easier than dealing with reality. Last place team that is likely going to set records for futility.
- spatso

Kessel was traded prior to this season.

Your argument continues to be invalid.

Leafs fans forget kessel? Don't most still like him and happy he won?i guess inventing your on reality better than existing in the reel one.

Set records for futility? Didn't the leafs finish with more pts this year than the Sabres in the last 2 years? Didn't they have more pts this this year than they did last year?

Chabot criticized by the sens, and spatso thinks he's going to be a super star..... But leaf fans are in denial and overrate their players

Duh, what part of last place are you missing. Make the playoffs once in 10 years but somehow this translates into heading in the right direction.

What records you suppose they break then?

They had more points this year than they did last year. Is that not moving in the right direction? Adding talent like nmatthews Marner and Nylander? That's not good?

What part of the chabot is disappointing do you not get?

You could argue that Marner and Nylander are pretty record setting prospects.

Maybe that's what he means?

I remember the days when Leaf fans had to pump the tires of prospects like this, pretend in their own minds they had several Elite players who were going to make huge impacts ..players taken later in the 1st and beyond.. that were going to turn out like top picks .

you have been doing this since 2011 for the sens since they started the rebuild with players like Noesen, Puempel, Cowen ..were all going to make the jump soon and be impact players ..

the red sens goggles are strong with this one

Do you mean like Kadri who will be a 3rd or 4th line center in a few seasons, pulling in 4.5 Million?

yeah, really disappointed in Kadri.

It would be much better if we had Zibjanjehajihad.

Yes. much better to be heading to another 9-11 draft pick with nothing on the farm and no hope in sight with an owner is a comedy show and the fan base lives in constant fear of the return of the Trojan man.

Hockey is a great game because they insist that the scoreboard and clock and standings be used as gauges of success. It is a summer tradition that fans of the blue and white come here and pretend that none of these matter. They chatter on about next season. It has been the same for 10 years. It will be the same again next year. Losers are what losers do and the Leafs have been no shows for every year but one.

And, the one year that they did make the playoffs they did the biggest collapse in playoff history in their series with the Bruins. Why would anybody think that next year will be different? We know that summer is let's pretend season for the blue kool aid crowd. You are having a great off season in once again winning the bragging rights.

I don't think the irony is lost on anyone here that you're talking about this nonsense, and just the other day you're in here talking about how ceci is a superstar and chabot will be (despite the sens saying they're disappointed his development)

There's only one gauge of a team's success, and it's cup wins. Goals, wins, "the clock", don't mean anything in that regard. So if this thread was about which team was more successful, it'd take the Sens a minimum of 13 years to have the answer not be "The Leafs".

Luckily for you guys, that's not what this thread is about, it's about who's in a better position. As in, "who is in a better position to win cups going forward". So with that in mind, past cups don't matter, only futures ones.

So let's break that down:

Neither is team qualified for the Stanley cup playoffs. Both current rosters are obvious failures at that goal.

The Leafs have arguably 3 of the top-5 prospects in the world. The Sens have arguably 0 of the top-30 prospects.

The Leafs have an ownership group that is willing to spend to the cap and far beyond it to build a winner. The Sens have an owner that by Sens fans own admissions, doesn't care about aquiring a player with a high cap hit, because they know they won't be spending to the cap in the forseeable future.

So while neither team is presently competitive, the Leafs have a bright future, and the ability to live up to that potential. The Sens have a mediocre future, and no real avenue of improvement until ownership changes.

Leafs are in a better position.

Boring. We listen to this kind of crap every summer. It vomits out of Leaf fans, unthinking, unbalanced, even a few that are a little unhinged.

But it is entertaining. Everyone, even the Leaf fans, know that the big stumble starts when they drop the puck for real. Leafs are about 5 years behind Edmonton in their rebuild and you all note that Edmonton is just now starting a rebuild off the rebuild and they have the bet hockey player on the plant.

But it is summer and it is hockey talk and it is, of course, Leaf fans providing the opportunity for laughter. We will wait for the fall before doubling up in laughter as Leaf fans start another false hope cycle.

One of the better blue and white comments.

Kadri 25 years old (will be 26 by season start) 6' and 192 lbs had 17 goals, 28 assists and 48 points. He was minus (15) on the season.

ZBad 23 years old (does not have next birthday until near end of season) 6'2" and 222 lbs. had 21 goals, 30 assists and 51 points. He was minus (2) on the season.

Now tell us again, how do Sens fans misunderstand which is the better asset?

The Sens have 1 playoff series win in 9 seasons, have a very average prospect pool, think Dion Phaneuf is going to help the team win...2 highest cap hits are declining fast

I am a huge believer in peak performance theory. You can usually track the build up to top performance and project the downward trend line from year to year. Ryan and Phanuef obviously peaked very early in their careers. Decline has set in. Players seldom, if ever, are able to reverse the progressive nature of the decline. The rate of goals scored per game year over year gives you a solid basis for projection.

Hoffman is next up to see this happen, likely having peaked in the last couple of years. The sens will be stuck paying another player based on past and not future performance.
