21st overall in ROWs

Tied for 7th overall in Points

The "struggling " is in their defensive zone, and will need to improve.

However, all things considered, in a better situation than the leafs.

- D0PPELGANGER

Budget team, weak roster, no future.

Leafs>Sens, easily.

Given Babcock's track record, we can bump it up to a 1% chance.

Ottawa has only 5 losses in regulation this season.

Only Montreal (4) and the Rangers (3) have fewer

That is a much better situation than teams (like the leafs) that have 10 or more.

I can't beleive the leafs are losing in a year in which they just traded their best player for futures and have openly talked about "rebuilding through the draft" and "pain" and "patience".

Consider me outright surprised.

Ottawa got outshot last night 37-20 .. scored 7 goals
that is very sustainable..and never comes back to hurt you

They're averaging 34.4 SA per game, 2.3 shots more than last years average per game.

They are allowing 2.7 more shots per game than the Rangers, who allow on average, one less goal per game.

Both the Rangers and Senators score an average of 3.1 goals per game.

So if the Senators can lower their SA/G down to the Rangers level, then what would you say?

The sens somehow cutting off 2.7 shots/game isn't going to cut off a goal a game..... So nothing?

the rangers are sporting a (frank)ing insane PDO of 107.4.. they are heading for a big market correction also. Sens have the 2nd highest PDO at 103

the Rangers are not nearly as good as the record suggests.

For reference, last season the Rangers were #1 in PDO also... at 101.7, the sens were 100.9

If you dont know what PDO is

PDO is an advanced statistic in hockey that combines save % and shooting % in an effort to measure overall performance of a team and highlight teams with outsized "luck".

The basic idea is that teams on average should be around the 1.000 level as each shot is either a goal or a save teams that are relatively higher are producing above expectations and should regress back to the 1.000 level and teams that are relatively lower are producing below expectations and should regess up to the 1.000 level.

So Ottawa will stay securely in second place in their division then.

Points = good
No points = very bad
OT wins = good
SO wins = bad in respect to tie breaker
OT loss within conference = bad
OT loss out of conference = OK
SO loss within conference = bad
SO loss out of conference = OK

So OT points are only bad when the Leafs get a lot of them.

apparently Ottawa is so cash-strapped that they're willing to include a prospect to trade away Colin Greening's 2.6M contract.
