it always makes me laugh that you claim:

1. the leafs last year only lost because bernier missed a few games, and weren't in fact a terrible team (like everyone else knows they were).

2. claim that ottawa was a terrible team and only won because of anderson.....and yet you ignore the fact that they were able to keep winning despite losing a better goalie than the leafs lost.........

hmmmmmmm

i think there are holes in your theory.

- sensarmy_11

I said ultimately, it cost them a very good chance at a playoff spot.

And I never called Ottawa a "Terrible Team",. You're using incorrect quotes to build my "Theory".

Let's settle this, then.

If the Sens goaltending was great because it was a shortened season, does it mean the Leafs made the playoffs because it was a shortened season also?

April 14 @ 1:12 PM ET

November: 13 games
9 losses

December: 14 games
8 losses

That’s 17 losses over 27 games. Was Bernier injured back then as well?

Out of curiosity, as of right now the Sens are 11 points back of the Leafs in the standings with one game in hand (vs. New Jersey). How far back (or ahead, for you dreamers) will the Sens be by the end of the season? Prediction #1. (I'll say 17, just for fun).

Prediction #2: Do the Leafs make the playoffs this season (2014/2015)? (I'll say Yup)

Prediction #3: Does this Leafs core win the cup? (I'll say Nope)

Prediction #4: When do the Sens turn things around and make it back to the playoffs? (I'll say 2016/2017 season).

Assuming the North Koreans don't hack this site, this thread will probably still be active for a few years - can any of you guys predict the future? I know I cannot...

Fact is, does goaltending wins you games? Of course.

Does an injury can send a team into a 10 games tail spin? Of course.

Did the Leafs went completely off the rails only because of Bernier being injured?

I don't think so.

toronto has the best record in their division, and third best in the Conference.
They also have the best home record in their division, so if they can play .500 on the road (or better) for the remainder of the season, they're pretty much a lock for the playoffs

PITTSBURGH .733
NY ISLANDERS .677
toronto .661
MONTREAL .656
DETROIT .656

Question? Why are you so petty that you don't capitilize the word Toronto?

He's been doing it for so long that the moment he hits that Shift key, the internet will explode. Or at least everybody here would make a huge deal out of it.

Bernier being injured was the final straw. They're not a good possession team, so they rely on maintaining a high PDO. Last season that was driven by Bernier being Bernier, and the top line being insane. Top line dried up, PDO started falling, Bernier got injured, it plummeted.

Hopefully this year's depth keeps that from happening, because their possession numbers still suck.

Their cf% is terrible this year but their cf% was record breakingly bad last season so they've still improved a lot.

WOW, you've got a short leash.

With a .603 record, and a more than 75% chance of making the playoffs, I think his job is safe.

The problem with the Leafs is how they lose.

More often than not, when they lose, they lose (frank)ing big.

I dont have a short Leash...I have been praying they fire RC for almost 2 years now
I dont care that they are winning... its not sustainable
they are sliding back down the possession rankings and solely relying in high PDO (again) for wins

Time to stop the madness..fire the coach and see if the team can improve...if not then start to dismantle ... Bozak, Lupul and Dion are the ones I would try my best to move

The only way Carlyle gets fired is if they slide out of a playoff spot in the next few weeks, imho. Or at the end of the season if they miss the playoffs by a few points.

Don't se them missing the playoffs.

It would take three teams to pass them to knock them out of the WC spot they now have.

The "playoff odds" are definitely in their favour, it would take an even more monumental collapse than last year for this to happen. They just need to play a shade over .500 for the rest of the season to end up with 93-96 points, enough to get in the playoffs in the East.

It's a lot easier to slide than to climb - but if they can avoid the slide (referred to by some as Kessel Gravity) then Carlyle probably holds onto the job as if it was his doing and not just a team growing into their skillset.

Florida I see passing them..and I could see Boston as well
its far from close to a guarantee..those 2 teams are 4 and 5 points behind..and Florida has 3 games in hand

we know the leafs can going on huge losing streaks just as easy as winning..so put your money on them missing now

Yeah, it's like they decide to completely not show up once every 6-7 games or so. Very weird.
