Jonathan Bernier's numbers so far reflect his play before his current "lower body" injury.

It's kinda hard to improve your numbers when you're not playing.

Try re typing this in a way that makes sense/reflects reality.

Thank you.

Unlike most of the goaltenders in the NHL who have the sames numbers year after year.

How about Jonathan Bernier's numbers? Are they the same every year?

2011-12 2.36 GAA
2012-13 1.88 GAA
2013-14 2.70 GAA

Oh, perhaps there is something in what you day.

from the guy who nit-picks every typo others make

Way to use a team stat to describe an individual, though. Good on you.

Lots of empty seats near the end of last nights game in the ACC, and another leaf jersey thrown onto the ice...............but all those corporate bigwigs that fill the arena can afford to toss away money I guess.

Perhaps they could do a real fan a favour and throw a jersey away in the front of the the ACC where all the real fans have to watch the game on video screens becasue of the prohibitively highest priced tickets in the NHL keep these fans from every getting into see a game.

Tip to real leaf fans, make the drive to Ottawa or Buffalo to see a NHL game live and in person.................we'll gladly take your money and use it to pay Bobby Ryan.

Ottawa vs Buffalo sounds like an AHL exhibition game, not an NHL game... and it'll be funny to see the team sink because they can't afford to pay any new contracts with Ryan's overpayment.

And way to avoid the point. If you hate being proven wrong so much... why don't you just try not being wrong for a change?

It could be worse. You could see the ahl matchup Toronto and buffalo and pay a lot more money to see a worse team.

But specifically, using gaa as a measure of a goalie's skill

So a GAA is not an indicator of a goaltender's performance.

Mike Hoffman was probably the best Senator forward last night. His speed and puck handling ability was the best I've seen it, all except for a weak penalty shot attempt.

But for a guy drafted in the fifth round, and having been developed into an NHLer through a few seasons in the ECHL/AHL, he sure scored a freaking highlight GWG last night.

This guy actually cleared waivers a couple of times last season, but now the Senators will need to make room for him on the roster in some way, as he'd be taken in a heartbeat if they were stupid enough to expose him to waivers again.

So what is GAA used for?

And if not for Goaltenders, why is it included when looking at the Stats of every goaltender?

GAA is a product of shots against, and the goalie's sv%. It's more of a team stat than anything. SV% is a far better stat to judge the goalie's skill, but still relies a lot on the team's ability to prevent high percentage shots.

Quick example to make it easier for you to understand: one goalie sees 50 shots per game and has a GAA of 3. another goalie has a GAA of only 1, but only sees 10 shots per game.

Do you think the goalie with the better GAA is the better goalie?

So why does the NHL include GAA only when looking at Goaltenders Stats?

I don't know why the nhl does that. But way to pass the buck along, rather than trying to think for yourself. I hear it's a lot easier to call people sheep when you don't try thinking for yourself, and just appeal to authority.

But if Bernier had a great GAA, it would be the best freaking stat in the Universe, right?

No, because the same logic, which you clearly can't formulate an argument against, still applies. Stop arguing for the sake of argument, try to think critically, and who knows... You may eventually reach a point where your user name isn't used as an insult.

NHL Power Rankings:

10. Ottawa Senators (4-1-0) – Since losing its opener, Ottawa has rattled off four straight wins. The Atlantic division is top-heavy meaning that the good teams like the Senators will be competitive while also beating up on Florida and Buffalo – two of the worst clubs in the NHL. The Senators have a relatively easy week with home games against toronto and New Jersey before things ramp up with a trip to Chicago and Columbus. - See more at: http://www.metro.us/newyo...ont/#sthash.vFdYD6Si.dpuf

Underlying stats are bad for Ottawa right now

Leafs management has said all along this year not to get excited about this season, as it would be a long rebuilding phase. Ottawa on the other hand was supposed to be a good team and contend for the cup. Who's in a better spot right now?

yeah, on twitter he hasn't been charitable to the sens at all. It's a good test of his mettle to see that he's not a homer.
