Well, when you finish the season with 80pts and still get outscored at even strength (-5), miss the playoffs, and go AWOL when the team goes into a tail spin, I wouldn't say that's getting results.

Putting up good personal stats? Sure. Results? I'm not so sure.

i think fatigue at the end of the year played a big part of that..........which kind of helps with the "he might need to improve his physical fitness level" argument

Kessel was +23 his last season in Boston. +/- is a team stat.

He does put up good numbers.
But honestly, I have no problem understanding why Boston let him go.

Except he's never really had issues at the end of the season. Probably had more to do with the whole team collapsing, and having to start practically every shift in the defensive end.

same reason they let seguin go

they don't have any patience for young players who don't appear to fit into their system. doesn't seem to be hurting them so it's hard to argue with it. you can win with guys like that though. look at kane in chicago.

if that's the case, why was jason spezza a -26, and kyle turris a +22, they played on the same team.

if a player is on the ice for more goals agaisnt than goals for, it can be pretty telling. it's not a "can't miss" stat for determining whether a player is good or bad defensively, but it's not just an indication of how good a team is that a particular player plays for either.

you could absolutely be right.....truthfully i didn't watch many leafs games, i just remember reading a lot of articles/blogs that were speculating that a lot of his fall off likely was due to fatigue.

I ddn't mean Kessel gets tired or whatever. He can skate with the best of them 82 games of the year so that isn't an issue, at least not right now. It's a miracle but that's how it is.

If he was completely jacked he'd probably be stronger and even more explosive which was my point. He could be terrifyingly good.

Or maybe it'd make no difference. He's already an anomaly so that is a possibility lol.

Chara went from worst +/- in the entire league on Long Island to the best in Ottawa in 1 season.

the team obviously plays a factor..........if you're on a team that scores 100 more goals than they give up, your +/- is likely to be higher.

but you said it's strictly a team stat, which is absolutely false. players who are bad defensively will have a +/- (relative to the overall teams +/-) that reflects that, same with players who are good defensively.

Kessel doesn't look like a pro athlete whatsoever. It really is a miracle that he's as athletic as he is. Imagine how good he'd be if he worked as hard as Crosby in the off-season.

image in crosby was as skilled as kessel and didnt have to work so hard in the offseason to make up for it

Honestly, 164 pages and we still don't have an answer?

Pathetic is the answer. And the patheticness trophy goes to... The author of this thread, and I don't even want to check on who it is. The runner up: Both the Ottawa fans and the Toronto fans who have been arguing about this for 164 pages! Trying to prove which team is less pathetic.

You are both quite mediocre, and so are the Habs and every other Canadian team actually in the grand scheme of things. Now how about everybody STFU, and discuss something a little less assinine....

Why has the cup not been to Canada since '93? This sounds like a better topic of discussion, which would not result in a bunch of unobjective homers, and total trolls arguing about mediocracy?

I must reiterate a point. PATHETIC!!!

You are far too serious. Do you not have any fun in your life? I regularly check this thread. Particularly important to see who is still alive after the summer.

Now that the boys are back on ice perhaps we can hit 200 pages with this thread.

His team needs a provincial rival that has dominated, or been dominated by, his team for the past 10 seasons, as the Senators have done in Ontario, by dominating the leafs for the past 10 seasons.
