Habs are hottest in the NHL now. Patch, DD and Vanek are flying. 4 lines contributing.

Extended PP drought for Leafs top-two scorers: van Riemsdyk has gone 23 straight games w/o PP point.

- BingoLady

Again. I didn't say the Leafs would make the 2nd round. I said they might.

Montreal isn't exactly an elite team, and if the Leafs drew them, they'd stand a good chance at making it through.

But, anyways. I don't know why you're all clamouring to have pages and pages of confused doppelganger drivel in your "my threads" list.

Very good chance they would have faced off against Montreal if they hadn't collapsed.

Do you really think the Leafs beating the Habs in a 7 game series is a pipe dream?

I'm not saying it's a sure thing... but one team took Boston to game 7 last year... the other one lost to the (frank)ing Sens.

But that doesn't mean anything. If there's more money to be had, and they aren't striving for it, they're not very good business people.
- Feeling Glucky?

I think they are poor business people in another fashion and that's how they spend their money. Look selling tickets to a hockey game in Canada's largest city isn't really an accomplishment especially when you consider the amount of time the Leafs are featured on national broadcasts and they are constantly being discussed on TSN ect.

The disconnect between financial and on ice success continues to be in the people they hire to make their hockey decisions for them.

I don't think you understand business very well.

making millions of extra revenue once every 10 years isn't better than making millions in extra revenue every year. Building a championship team builds fan base.... I know the Leafs already have one of the biggest fanbases in the NHL, but you can always grow it more.

And finally, if you're interested only in making money and don't care about the on-ice product, you follow the Ottawa model, and don't spend anywhere near the cap, letting key players go rather than re-sign them.

Toronto makes tons of cash your are correct ,and they have sucked for a decade .As a buisness man how would you exploit this?? a] continue doing what you are doing or b]win it all and give the fans what they want .I think its you that fails to understand big buisness,TMLSE is a money maker the way it is .They have not ever in the last 10 years tried ,to make a serious run at anything other than keeping the status quo .But they will continue to keep you hoping while charging you for anything that has a leaf lable on it

I know this is all very traumatic to your ego. But I was talking about where the Leafs were prior to Bernier getting injured.

Go take a look at where they were in the standings.

I'll wait.

I will say this. They never have to worry about the fans rebelling on them as Leafs fans are criminally loyal to that team.

My theory is that the Leafs maintained a playoff record on the back of a goalie tandem(mostly Bernier) who were burnt out and started to suffer injuries due to their constant workloads. Bernier hid a lot of blemishes on a squad that when analyzed top to bottom finally succumbed to the stats and the law of averages.

If I'm the owner of the Leafs, I do what every other business person does, I look to grow my business, and spend my money efficiently.

Spending to the cap for a losing team, not efficient use of my money, not a good way to grow my business.

Spending more than anyone else on coaching, GMs, and scouting, again... if the team's not reaping benefits from this, it's not really an efficient use of my money, and again, doesn't grow my business.

No decision maker worth his salt accepts the status quo. To suggest ownership is "ok" with losing because it makes them money is idiocy. As you've made clear, it's not hard to fill seats in the ACC, mainly because businesses buy up a lot of season tickets for clients. That won't change, ever. Leafs could make much more money if they're ok with losing by spending at the floor, like Ottawa does.

I'll admit that when the Bruins are poop the financial returns decrease as fans have other perennial championship teams in the city to follow and invest their hard earned cash towards seeing.

Meh they make millions ,by making the playoffs once in ten years. Why would they want to fix what isnt broken to them, and besides after the collective relief from leaf fans of finally winning it all.Do you not think there would be some sort of letdown as far profit earned after a cup win ???Everybody in toronto wants a cup and wants to be there when it happens ,as soon as that title is reached .Fan interest would not be at such a fever pitch as it now .MLSE knows this and plays it perfectly

That's ridiculous.

Did the red sox lose interest?

This is getting closer to the crux of the problem.

Saying they don't want to win is patently stupid. But one of the problems with the Leafs for many years has been ownership groups with lots of infighting, lots of big personalities who think they know hockey, but have never been involved in the sport, and lots of interference with the guys they hire to make the hockey decisions.

New ownership group is Bell/Rogers... fewer cooks in the kitchen is good, and they seem to be leaving everything to Tim Liewickie.

Hopefully he knows what he's doing. He's made the right moves for TFC and the Raptors so far. Leafs were in a good situation so they were lower in his list of priorities, but I think they'll draw more of his attention after this season.

that is possible. I have put blame on Carlyle for not playing Reimer more.

Sitting him as long as he did, and asking him to come in and be starter when Bernier went down was a terrible idea. Even if you don't know Bernier is going to get injured, gotta make sure that when your team relies so heavily on goaltending that both guys are ready at any given moment.

I'd love to upgrade, but HE'S not the one that would be on the outside looking in. He's been one of the relatively few highlights of our season.

He was with the Leafs. Kessel, JVR, and Lupul are all significantly better.

Look man i love your passion ,but as a buisness what is broken as far as the leafs are concerned???Do they make money?? .Do they have a market monopoly over the 4th largest city in NA ??With said monopoly will they not continue to grow with or without winning a cup??And no decision maker would ever try to risk the money TMLSE makes. Keeping the status quo ,to try and give the fans what they want .They want you to want ,and hope. All while they take the cash out of your wallet

How so? They won and all fans were happy. Have been a good team since and won more championships.

Saying that winning will decrease fan interest is lunacy.

I made a point about why TMLSE doesnt care about winning the cup as much as their fans do ,you choose to read it different and resort to putting your head back in the sand.Everything i have mentioned isnt what you want to hear as as fan i get it ,christ we have the biggest dousche as our owner .But he is a billionaire and so is the ownership of the leafs .And them caring and them making money never go hand in hand my friend
