Let's see how he fares playing with Brassard, a left handed center, which should improve his play, and the PP as well.

He's averaged just over 20 goals per season since he became a Senator, which is more than any right winger that plays for the leafs last season, so the trade for Brassard was made with improving Ryan's game in mind.

well that sure didnt work out

Did not think the poster I was responding to, could explain it ............ and neither can you.

leafs were the worst team in the NHL last season, and it's going to be a long long road back to even contending for a wildcard spot ........ perhaps 5 more years , and then another few seasons before they can even think about winning a first round series, and by that time they'll be in Cap problems and management will have to start another re-build .......... the typical leaf cycle that we've all seen over the past two decades.

You can focus on money, budget, cap and all off ice issues ......... because there is not much else for leaf fans to dwell on.

I focus on how the team(s) play on the ice, and Phaneauf is a better D man than any that the Sens have departed ways with over this year.

Therefore the one ice performance of the Senators has improved, and will continue to improve for the foreseeable future.

Wow I just saw the highlights

Holy crap they are beyond bad right now.

- Aetherial

me too...

my lord Karlsson is a hot mess. Phaneuf is even worse than his Toronto days. they left their goalie out to fend for himself on so many plays.

that second goal. karlsson literally skated backwards into anderson conpletely ignoring the bruins rookie going to the open side of the net. not so much as a glance. you don't make those mistakes once you're out of timbit hockey or you get benched.

5th goal some of the same. Hes leaving his man wide open and watching the shot. he has done that most of his career though he's terrible at tying up his man by the net. it's a big reason why he usually leads the leargue in goals against.

the third goal. well what can you say. have you're shot blocked and lose a foot race. ouch.

(frank) that noise.

That contract is an anchor. Even at 50%. He just can't keep up anymore. I'd much rather keep Polak

Phaneuf is quite possibly worse than any Leafs Dman, including Polak.

Just when Sens fans thought maybe they finally would be able to afford a nutritious lunch...

Systemtool relieved them of their lunch money and kicked sand in their face, using their own words, again.

You are entirely correct. This team has been entirely reshaped around Karlsson. Everything done starting with the Phaneuf deal, bringing in Guy Boucher and trading for Brassard is all about winning behind Karlsson's attacking game. I am more upbeat about this season than I have been for a few years.

I think they need one more burner up front and Duschene would be an outstanding addition.

This one is my fave.

The best part of these threads is that you can pretty much pick any page (from before they ran away) and find epic derp and chirp from Spazzd'oops. Sensarmy popping in every once in a while to "help", in his own special way, is precious.

I dunno Daeth. He looks pretty slow and confused out there.

On the other hand, the whole team is a cluster(frank) right now. It is tough for anyone to look "good".

Page 1013 was a rare page where Garfingsince stopped by to rescue Spazzd'oops for part of a day. So I had to pick another page, 1041

Still does not change the fact that Sens and Leafs will meet in the first round of the playoffs unless the Leafs have a second half collapse?

he's lost a step over the last couple seasons but he is at worst a polak type player but with some actual skill with the puck. he's capable of doing things with the puck that don't involve smashing the puck off the glass or chopping at it like a lumberjack. polak treats the puck like a live grenade lol. my jaw drops when i see him make a clean breakout pass, that's how rare it is. phaneuf makes dumb plays semi regularly but that still beats being bottom tier when it comes to breakout passes.

Love it. Most of the Leaf fans have abandoned the thread. A few stringers hang on trying to convince themselves that the tooth ferry is going to lace on the blades and help drag the Leafs into the playoffs.

So busy trying to find flaws in the Sens they don't have to ask themselves who is responsible for blowing up Morgan Reilly's career. His game has totally gone, his self confidence is eroded and he has no support. Not good!
- spatso

run away laff fans!

god bless the tooth ferry.

rest in peace Morgan.

- systemtool

I find this one to be especially hilarious. Rielly has been one of the best defense men in the league this season. I guess we have spazzo to thank for that.

Also don't have to try very hard to find flaws in the Sens. They're so glaring that you could throw a dart blindfolded and hit several. Most of which involve Karlsson.

phaneuf's remaining value as a player:

17-18: $3M
18-19: $2M
19-20: $1M
20-21: $0M

can't retain enough salary to move him.

I love the holiday season. Spazz'd00ps have really brought so much joy to Leafs fans this year that I almost feel bad pointing out their hypocrisy and cowardice. Then I realize that their hypocrisy and cowardice is part of the joy that they bring. We should enjoy it while we can because (despite enjoyable retrospectives by Systemtool) pretty soon this will all come to an end and we'll be discussing if the Leafs or Nordiques are in a better situation.

I don't disagree with your overall points, especially the on/off pattern of Anderson. The one area where I do disagree is your failure to recognize the emergence of coaches and teams that are structured to play against the possession game. Two years ago the Sens played good possession hockey (numbers) and were one of the top scoring teams in the league. This past year they changed style, scored a lot less and defended much more vigorously. Make no mistake, the name of the game is team defence and Jacques Lemaire owns the soul of Guy Boucher.

Next year, more teams will replicate the Ottawa success and teams that try to outgun everyone else may be in for a long year, Important to note that Nashville plays a very similar style to Ottawa. They play a 1-3-1, they are comfortable defending in their own end by keeping the play on the periphery...they block lots shots. They counter attack with great gusto.

Old man geezer Marleau leading the way to another Leafs victory. What a bargain that signing was.

Can't wait for the guaranteed Sens vs Leafs 1st round playoffs matchup. Hopefully both teams show up and it's a doozy

I love Phaneuf. Guy played his ass off every single game for us. He just lost a step.

Now he's lost a step from the step he already lost.
