Concussion boy has more even strength goals over the last 5 years than Seguin, Benn, Tavares, Kessel, Pavelski...

Sens could use an upgrade to their top line/pairing.

I ended up watching the whole game last night.
Now I'm tired

5v5 the Leafs were the better team overall.
Got a little luck with the PK ..good road win on the east coast

If they can get at least 1 point in LA .. Great success

That's the least amount of penalties I've ever seen the Ducks get. Usually the refs call them for everything.

Guess all they needed was to play the Leafs to not get called for the poop they do.

yeah that was getting a bit silly.

on the Season the Leafs have taken 108 min in Penalties and opposition 118 (so -10)
pretty even

The Sens are a -51 which is the highest in the League. they have had it good so far

Leafs pulled out 2 points against a lame duck team. good on them for not letting the opportunity slip past them as they continue a tough road trip. leafs will be in tough against a rested kings team.

After getting destroyed by a struggling habs team, sens have a chance to bounce back against a lousy red wings team; while in a long stretch of easy opponents.

I swear the "blueprint" is just playing good hockey.

"hey I think we should really stand up at the blueline and force these guys to dump and chase the puck instead of that other thing we usually do"

This is not what you want to talk about. The Toronto based hockey media pumped Matthews all the way to #1. Now we hear people starting to back away and talk about Laine as the likely Calder favourite. What is wrong with these guys?

I am surprised there is nothing in this thread about the Duchene trade. The thread has actually been pretty dead since that deal happened it seems. Ottawa fans must be too busy in other threads or something.

What does everyone think? Seems to me it is one of those trades where all three teams get what they want.

I do think in Ottawa's case we'll need to see just how Duchene does with the Sens. He is considered a superior player to Turris by most, but their points per game seem fairly similar over the last 5 years.

Turris: 0.68/ppg (245/358 - points/games played last 5 years + this year)
Duchene: 0.73/ppg (268/367 - points/games played last 5 years + this year)

Admittedly this is only from the last 5 years. Some might argue I should do the whole career, but I'm lazy and really, shouldn't the last 5 years be a decent indicator for the next year or two at least? Do we really need to go all the way back to rookie seasons?

Anyways, looking solely at ppg, it doesn't seem like Turris is a huge upgrade. I know there is the argument that Duchene will do better on a better team and that has merit. On the other hand some would argue that Turris is better defensively - I have no idea if this is true...

Just my gut feeling is that Duchene is an upgrade and will be better in Ottawa, but we'll have to see. Are Sens fans happy about the trade?

What about the price? Seems like a big price for upgrading from Turris to Duchene, but at least the team was smart enough to protect the 1st if its a top 10 (Damn you Brian Burke, you idiot! )
Sens keep their highest rated prospects. Seems like this could be a really good move for the Sens assuming Duchene does in fact pick up his game in Ottawa.

Found this article on Sportsnet comparing Turris and Duchene.

Apparently they actually have Duchene rated as better at defense, although I'm not sure what statistics they are using for their chart. They've just got it listed as defense, rather than corsi or something. Anyway, if anyone wants to check it out, here's the link.

dewshane is an upgrade on Turris..the Sens paid a premium to get that. They are in a win now situation so 1st rounders, 3rds and prospects are expendable.

imo in order for this deal to work out in the Sens favor a few things need to happen

-Make the playoffs this season
-Win at least 1 round
- sign MD to an extension when the time comes

If they dont sign him, maybe then trade him to get some futures back if the playoff stuff doesnt work out

Spazzy and doops fled this thread, with hopes we'd stop bringing up all the stupid things they've said, and started a new one... and I'm more than happy to let this one die

But this was a stupid move by the Sens. Duchene is an upgrade, sure, but a marginal one, and not worth what they gave for that upgrade.

I mentioned when the report that the trade fell through came out, that I was disappointed, but I'm pretty happy with how the weekend turned out.

Sens marginally upgrade their 1C, without addressing their biggest need, which is depth. Their D still sucks, they're still relying on an aging goalie.

And they're starting to bite into their future, and they've got Karlsson AND Duchene coming up for contracts at the same time.

As a Toronto fan, and someone who is partial to both Nashville and Colorado, this whole thing makes me very happy.
