What fun being a Flyers fan. Mid-May, again, and we are left reading up on prospects in the system, hoping for prospects in the draft, and fantasizing about trades and futures that will never happen. The word “malaise” comes to mind. Someone snap us out of this. Tell us there’s hope and that this is not just another rinse and repeat off-season.

and it all started on this day with Clarkes retirement so he can bring his ass-backwards thinking to the management of our team

Not fair to blame one person. Bad luck has also gotten us here. Not just a series of poor decisions and unwillingness to actually rebuild. It takes a lot of things going wrong.

The Flyers probably have to move him this summer. They can still sell his upside before he turns 25 next year.

When you’re not making the playoffs year after year that’s a problem.
Ok every team has some kind of bad luck. Bad luck may affect a year and or cup run due to an injury for example. Good well run organizations adapt and make changes to correct any deficiencies.
The flyers have had bad luck but were also not run well for a long time.
Nolan Patrick for example was a situation where the flyers went with the consensus pick without doing any in depth investigation of Patrick or other prospects. I could be wrong but from anything I read the flyers didn’t want to screw up a lucky bounce and went with the safe pick.
The fans might have been upset if the flyers picked any of the other guys but hindsight shows it would have worked out better for the flyers.
The jury is still out on the current management.
Do they know what they don’t know?
I’m not to optimistic they do what’s best for the organization.

It takes someone to make tough decisions. The last GM with the balls to trade away prime talent was Holmgren when he swapped out both faces of the franchise in Richards and Carter just coming into their prime. It was a franchise altering day. It wouldn’t be easy to part with Konecnyand a Farabee ….or to a lesser extent Laughton. But if they were ever serious about an actually proper rebuild then those are the choices that have to be made….otherwise this organization will just continue to spin its wheels.

Ya let’s hate the GM who actually built a team year after year that was relevant….and when they weren’t heads rolled….no BS…just about the results.

but but there was no cap and he had it easy.

flyers have been incompetent for what the last dozen years? Not buying it that it is because of clarke. Just a lazy excuse to use really.

Yup.

So. Many. Poor. Decisions.

What good luck they've had (Foppa, Claude, Bob, 2017 draft lotto) they've managed to squander by chasing after white whales.

Luck has absolutely nothing to do with it when you miss the playoffs or get bounced in the first round in 11 of the last 12 seasons.

Anyone else see Sielski’s article in the Inqy about Bernie? About the ‘73-74 season he says, “Take Parent off that club, and there’s no championship to celebrate. The Bullies would have been goons and nothing more.” Bernie was great and it was a nice article, but come on that’s just ridiculous. Why would a Philly spirts writer say that?

But we get to look back at an awesome may 15yh from 51 years ago and relish in the trade

Nothing to do with the cap. It was a Flyer mindset supported by the owner. Now it’s just excuses.

Cant trade sl - means to much to the room - who needs goals and assists when you have the intangibles of sotty laughton?
