lol I honestly think Gary should have just handed UTAH the second overall pick. You know to reward the failed ARZ franchise with a great player. Just change all the draft rules like he did for Vegas. All good.

It's not as far fetched as it appears. They don't do 16 draws to establish the order.

But the NHL is a joke. The process is extremely convoluted and has little transparency. Just get a glass barrell. Load it with team logo balls based on lotto odds. So San Jose gets 37 balls. Detroit gets 1. Etc...Spin the barrell. Get some minor hockey kid wearing a blindfold reach in and grab a ball. There is your #1 pick. No conspiracy.

The Sharks were the worst team in the league, standings-wise and by a wide margin on paper. They were the odds-on favorite to win the lottery. I don't think it's that big of a stretch to bring up his ties to the area when they're the most likely team to get him.
