They won the series because of the McPower Play. Still think they win at the end of the day because they have 97/29 - but this was a super tight match up that would've gone 7 and could go either way played 5v5.

Bottom line - Edmonton McPP's are on their way to Round 2 and that's all that matters! It doesn't matter what anyone thinks or feels. There are teams that win Championships cause of circumstance in every sport all the time. No apologies necessary.

I wonder the thought process one has to have to think this is some sort of insult worthy of trolling. You guys score too much on the power play, gottem! Well yes but we are also 2nd in 5v5 scoring right now… who cares you guys score too much on the PP!

So what you're saying is if a future opponent shuts down the Oilers' power play then they might have more difficulty winning. My only question is: why are you giving this valuable information away for free in a public forum?

By my count the Kings and Oilers scored the same number of ESG's. so yes, the PP did win the series.

The powerplay was 100% a difference maker. Never said it wasn't. The belief that the Oilers are only a threat because of their powerplay is misguided.

No, folks.

If they didn't score on the PP - they would loose in my opinion. Its a 2 (occasional 3) man team and a PP. I also state there is no reason to feel insulted or apologize for. Well done to the coach and GM. Just saying not a good 'team' just a good PP and 2/3 players. PP is very important. For instance if Leafs scored on even 1/3 of theirs they are also in 2nd round.

Also, this series played 5v5 (i don't care Oilers have second most 5v5 goals...) game to game this series is far from over.

Yes if the next team keeps it 5v5 they will dominate the Oilers. Cause all they have is 2/3 players and a PP.

Its also when they seem to get the PPs. For example last night - LA was dominating them in second up 2-1 then BAM - 4 PP's one period. Game is done. Its like when one team gets 4 PP's through forts 2 periods then after game is out of reach ref goves the other team 3 PP's late in game - you look at box scores and think: pretty even on PP chances. Except it wasn't even 'in game'.

FOR the 7th and hopefully the last time - I am well aware that a good PP is good thing and can win games. Thats not my point.

Goodnight folks. Good luck round 2.

Others in here have been defensive about the amount of PP goals the Oilers scored and referenced them being #2 for 5v5 goals. I know you didnt say that the PP wasnt a difference maker and yes, you are 100% correct in that the Oilers are not just a threat because of their PP..

The Oilers PK was a bigger factor, and I don’t think the Oilers should apologize for their PP. huge part of the game that the Oilers mastered against the Kings.

The Edmonton Oilers get a tonne of secondary scoring!
Their 10th forward is a very good player, and most teams cannot say this.
I think your argument is severely flawed.

Sean has some good points.

The main thing to put some perspective on how dominate the Oilers beat the Kings was that almost half of the Kings goals came off extremely lucky goals.

Take away flukes and this is just ugly.

It was very strange for officiating to end up slightly in the Oilers favor overall. That is very rare. But Kings dug themselves a huge hole by diving so much and head hunting. The officiating for both sides wasn't great but one thing is safe to say. Officiating did not impact who won the series even slightly.

The Oilers, imo were more than good enough to win every single game. Were the favorites going into the series. Should and did win as expected.

The Kings have a solid playoff caliber team that is a serious pain to play because they play what I would call cheap boring dirty hockey. But the team is getting worse every year and if they didn't play that lame brand of hockey I'm not sure they even make the playoffs. Add in the eventual aging out of a few of their great star players, Kopi and Doubt, plus maybe another bad trade or two and who knows how bad this team could be.

Win or no win. Expected or not. Hoping that Edmonton can keep making the playoffs themselves I really would prefer Edmontons first round match ups to not be the Kings.

To me it doesn't even feel like a rivalry. More I hope the Oilers are not too hurt/drained to play well in the second round than a competitive rivalry. Or can the Kings fluke out and finally beat the Oilers.

Not good hockey to watch imo.

ok.. i will bite

Edmonton's 10th Forward in points this season is Jannmark/Ryan with 12 points.
LA's 10th Forward in points is Lewis with 16 points..

Further breakdown, the Oilers 5th Forward in points was Evander Kane with 44 points.
LA's 5th Forward in points was Byfield with 55 points.

Edmonton has a killer top 5 unit: McDavid, Draisatil, Hyman, Bouchard and Ekholm. You can add Nuge as an honorable mention.

Secondary scoring drops from Nuge with 67 points to Kane with 44.

He did overcome the funk the Canucks put McD & his Oilers in at the start of season that got him his promotion.

It’s Brunette & he coached the Preds into the playoffs & had no McD to ride on his coattails.

Oilers have been the best team in Hockey since Nov 13th of last year shortly after Knoblauch took over. He should have been in the Jack Adams conversation for sure but I hope Tocchet gets it.

Yeah.. thanks for the catch,,

What about Laviolette winning the Presidents trophy? what about DeBoer in Dallas?

But whomever voted, those were the top 3 - Tocchet, Brunette and Bowness.

Probably the McDavid factor. Everyone in the organization gets overlooked because of it.
