How Leafy with Matthews missing another. Quite remarkable luck. Despite the well deserved win in game 5, I'm afraid it's the end of the line.

Or to be super Leafy, a dominant win tonight, then giving up a lead late in game 7....

My two cents on Auston Matthews

Had a hard crash into the boards in game 80

Was rattled but played through it.
As he did, symptoms came up and got worse.

They shut him down.
Not messing around with a franchise player

Not confirming this but it makes sense

Makes sense, concussion symptoms can take a week or even more to show in some instances.

if it's true, someone should be FIRED for let him play game #81 and 82 and not resting him for the playoffs

I believe with all the other injured players at the time they would have had to play short or put someone through waivers.

Regardless it’s a lesson for the future, milestones don’t (frank)ing matter. Rest your stars the last few games.

In all seriousness though - If I was a betting man and was told:

Leafs have to face the Boston Bruins First Round (a team just removed from record setting season)

Virtually no Nylander (either not in or not 100%)

Matthews healthy for 2 Games then missing 3rd of game 3 and not playing again

I would not place money this series would've even gotten this far personally. Its not like Leafs had those absences but were playing the Preds Isles Caps or Kings for example.

This isn't to excuse the abysmal PP or PK and healthy players playing like ass - but just looking at it, its a tough go you know.

If Leafs were full health (as much as you get this time year) and Bruins had No Marchand or Pasta or Oilers had no 97 or Drais etc....they would be in even tougher than they are.

“Illness”

Or concussion symptoms.

Game 2 was around a week after he had the hard crash into the boards head first.

Symptoms can pop up weeks later with head injuries. According to one of the best concussion specialists anyways that my sibling had to see years ago. He actually treated Crosby and JVR for their concussions.

Took a week to feel symptoms, then was plunged into a few years of PCS.

Head injuries are weird man.

He also could have had a concussion and was hit in game 1 or 2 to make it worse.

Wasn't there some claims that Bruins had some goalie injury issues after the OT loss?

Thought I read that Swayman was injured and that Ullmark may be too. Was that just BS???

TBH, I would rather Ullmark or even Swayman over some random zamboni driver that has the game of his career to oust the Leafs. Too Leafy for me.

Kinda does make sense, Matthews crashed into those boards really hard too IIRC.

I'm just speculating here, but to me it looks like a lot like Matthews has a embryonic conjoined twin that can actually detach from him and he's trying to track it down before it kills again. Oh wait no that was the plot of an X-Files episode. Still, that is definitely the intution I have.

Yeah when Willy bumped him after they both were looking at the net for 70.

Hope they beat them and he can come back for game 7.

For what it’s worth SN posted his skate this morning and he looked great.

Must be his head.

I think they recalled a goalie to be the emergency back up for the away game.
