I was assuming there would be more money and better overall conditions for him in the NHL but perhaps he was treated and paid like a russian "superstar" back home, which I guess would potentially mean a bigger contract than what he was offered in 'Murica.

the important thing is that the senators still have to forfeit a first-round pick, and that their rebuild hopefully continues going like poop.

What he would bring in the NHL could be replicated by a cheaper, younger player with contract control (no waivers, no cap hit if in the minors). He goes back to mother Russia, he's an NHL guy and tremendously better than some of the scrubs. Additionally, his game is better for that ice size.

oh I get all that, but like I was saying I just assumed there's more money to be made in the NHL compared to KHL salaries... unless I'm mistaken, generally speaking hockey players will opt to play in the NHL if it's an option for them, it has happened before that a player chooses the KHL instead but it isn't such a common thing.

I think ex-nhl guys make good coin there. And if you consider how many less games are played and you're home it will negate the difference.

sure, but in Emelin's case you would think at that point he still had a few good NHL years left in the tank before going for a semi-retirement and finishing his career in Putinland.

another one that surprised me is Markov, he had slowed down considerably because of injuries but at the time I was sure that another NHL team would give him a try in a lesser role.

What I find harder to believe is how the Internet hockey community are given condolences to coyotes fans. And let's be clear, it's a fanbase who could not regularly sell out a 4,600 seat college arena

It's sucks for those people. What could have made it worse was how Merulo was just going to drop the news on the 18th to all his employees.
