Karine Hains: In Hainsight: New York Needed the Points The Canadiens lost 3-2 in overtime to the Islanders last night and it was obvious which team needed the points.

My favourite prospect right now has to be Fowler! That kid is something special already. Just let the kid play wherever he needs to in terms of where he's at in his development and watch him shine.

If he's too good for college, send him to Laval to start as many games as possible while Monty's and Primeau's contracts expire.

I think that kid will be able to play at any level and find success.

Seems to be a pretty cool kid too. His draft interviews reflected that.

Top 2024 NHL Draft prospects Berkly Catton, Cayden Lindstrom being shut down, won't join Canada for the World U18's

Not a bad news for MTL, Lindstrom could slip down to 6th or 7th where the Habs are expected to draft

With their OT loss and by proxy of the NHL tie-break rules, the Montreal Canadiens are now assured of, at worst, the 8th-best lottery odds (and thus a top-10 pick).

They currently have the 5th-best lottery odds, tomorrow's game against the Ottawa Senators will have a big impact.

The Canadiens have the lowest regulation win total (20) among the teams ranked 10th to 5th-to-last.

So they'll always need an extra point compared to their rival to pass them in the standings.

They lose the tie-breaker at every point.

It's going to be an interesting draft.

Some have Lindstrom in the top 3, others have him near #10.

I have yet to make my official wishlist but I'm slowly leaning towards Iginla between the two.

And of course... Demidov... can't ignore him.

I think the Habs is the team that has lost the most 1 goal games in the NHL this year.

I think it's very encouraging for next season, a few improvements and we win a good portion of those games.

If they can get a decent top 6 young forward via trade, draft a potential top 6 and get Dach healthy, could be interesting.

Necas via trade, Lindstrom (or Iggy) and Dach

Not sure the guy we draft this year will play in the NHL at 18 years old.

Lindstrom might have the frame but he didn't play that much this year.

Demidov might stay in Russia.

Iginla might be the most likely to be able to play right away but I doubt we'd see significant results in his first year.

I'll accept the idea of being happy if they score the GWG on a puck that bounces off Brady Tkachuk's face, causing him to lose part of his vision and retire.

Preliminary priority list

Celebrini
Lindstrom
Demidov (but I am not sure MTL will take a chance with a high pick on a Russian, maybe later on in the draft)
Iggy
Eiserman (scares me a bit, a bigger Caufield that cares less about his 200' feet game)

That would be an immediate infusion of better, and more promising talent into the line-up for sure. If the Habs finish 5th, I saw a mock draft where they could end up getting Demidov at that spot.

I think Eiserman is going to fall. Might be a homerun swing around #10-15 for a team that could work.

There are safer/better picks at 5-7 imho.

fully agree, the top 8 draft pick from this year should be expected with the big team for 2025-26

Demidov could easily be there at #5.

They'll have the Michkov debate again, without the long KHL contract and the reports of bad attitude.

Biggest knock on him is, they don't have a scount IN Russia to watch him directly. They only have video/zoom calls.

He has not been healthy much this year but Lindstrom seems to be fit the pattern of big (6'4) talented forward HuGo seems to like for the playoffs and he is known to be pretty good defensively also. Iggy is 6', talented and a tireless worker, both great fit

He has so much offensive talent. At some point, he'll be worth the risk.

Same with Trevor Connelly. The reports of racist comments and off-ice problems will scare teams away, but at some point someone will take the homerun swing on him.

It really is a problem with Russian players.

Mind you, didn't prevent them from drafting 2 guys from Russia last draft.
