big bad dave steckel, all his fault. not the doctors who let him play and get smashed in by Hedman, which by all accounts, was the hit that did it for him.

I can’t believe Sid is managing just fine without Guentzel.

Again congrats to Crosby. Was a beast last night smooth as silk. Looks like he could play another 5 yrs at this level. Very impressive. From a lifelong Rangers fan

"Sidney Crosby knew this milestone was coming up, but his superstitious ways kept him from discussing it. "Obviously something I didn’t want to talk about, I knew it was getting closer," he said with a smile. "Any time you can be in that company, it’s pretty cool."

Yeah, Grinder...really sounds like this didnt mean "sh!t" to Sid....

I’m glad it’s over so it can quit being a distraction. Gotta get to business. Get Carter that 10th goal.

To my eyes Pools hasnt looked like he belongs up with the big boys. Extremely small sample though, of course.
- MattStrat

I thought his first game was good and then he hasn't been noticable. I hope he isn't buried because he can't make a line with Carter and Puljujarvi on his off-wing work.

Poulin's been in the organization for five years now. He's on a team that hasn't won a playoff series since before he was drafted. He's on the final year of his contract. As a first round pick the time to show if he's going to play in the NHL is now.

I've generally been pleased with the injection of youth. Especially the defense, St. Ivany and Ludvig show potential and play a tough brand of hockey, that has been missing here for some time.

- Thunderbolt

St Ivany has been nice, honestly kind of an upgrade from Ruhwedel.

Ludwig is tough, but I feel like he needs to develop more. Still can, he's young, but missing so much time the last couple years to injury while he burned through his waiver eligibility I feel hurt him. I like him as a 7 for now.

I definitely blame the doctors more (even though it was a cheap shot by Steckel). Not even so much playing that game, but failing to diagnose the neck injury for over a year. Sid had to find alternative doctors himself while the organization backed the doctors. It should have never lasted that long or come to that.

I'm all for an extended look. I mean, why not?...well...maybe because they think they can still make playoffs and he isnt best option to help get W's. Just seems he's a bit slow for a young fella and has whiffed on a few things. His metrics are pretty poor over the games since he came up but I mean he only had like 5 mins 5 on 5 time the last game he played haha

Accidentally running into a player isn’t a heap shot.

I honestly dont think I'll have a bigger privilege in my sports life than watching Crosby all these years wear a Penguins jersey. The guy has been nothing but a professional his whole life. Conducts himself well off the ice, no crazy or embarrassing stories, has never had his commitment to the team or game questioned, and has brought a lot of silverware to Pittsburgh.

That Crosby retirement announcement is going to be brutal.

We'll make a hard push for the playoffs and St.Ivany will be considered THE NEW PIECE. Book it (hopefully).

Its been a privilege for sure. So was watching Mario and Jagr growing up. Unreal how blessed I've been as a Penguins fan. A Penguins fan since before I can remember. Chose them when I was 4 and as the story goes my 8-year-older brother told me I had to pick a favourite team and made me choose my favorite team out of a big stack of O-Pee-Chee hockey cards he handed me. I went with the Penguins logo as my favourite. Fast forward a handful of years and they did the back to back runs I watched every game of.

This is how I feel.

Sid was definitely concussed after Steckl and I do believe it was intentional. The interview in the room between periods he was all glassy eyed. Hell I even think Don Cherry noticed it IIRC.

As you noted the duration of the injury was all on the Doctors. The miss diagnosis and allowing him to pay after getting a concussion in the first place.

What a waste, for a while that year he was at a goal a game pace.

It sounds like the illness running through the team had more to do with it then a coaches decision yesterday. They screwed up burning so many regular recalls early so now they have very little flexibility.

EDIT- DOC seemingly should not have even played last night. Got the warrior helmet despite not really doing much.

Definitely needs a longer sample for the metrics. They are too all over the place. Shots for are positive Fenwick and scoring chances are better than the rest of the fourth liners, xGF and HDC are terrible rates. But he's played 23 minutes and HDC are 2-4. A longer run, and his numbers should be similar across the board but they aren't yet.

This was before all the attention to concussions....because this happening to Sid is what changed everything. It literally changed the league forever. I dont think there were dark rooms, or that they were mandatory after a head hit before then. I don't think there was 7 game minimum rest requirement after diagnosed concussions before then.

Players in general would play through so much more years ago than they do now.

I'd really like to see more of the Gruden-Poulin-Pulj line. They didn't win the metrics against Carolina, but it's Carolina and they were the second best on the team and had a goal. I'd probably argue that was each player's best game for us, seemed to have some good chemistry. Pulj seems a lot different at LW.

He defienelty played while sick to get that helmet last night. Either that or the player that awarded it to him had a bad fever going hahah

Yes, for sure, way too small of a sample to give fancies much credence, yet.

This reminds me of an article I read yesterday. It sad Dubas shouldn't spend all his time trying to fix the bottom 6 this offseason. He should allow the young talent show what they can do for the bottom 6 and bottom pair for the Defense. The article went on to talk about trading Smith, EK, and Rakell and some others and work on solidifying the top 6 and top 4 defense.

Both St. Ivany and Ludvig are young in defenseman years. Joseph is included in that conversation. There's more expectation from Joseph as he's been playing at the NHL level for some time.

I think all three have improved from the start of the year. And that's all you can ask right now. Really looking for Joseph to take that next step and push Graves to the curb.

After that nobody in the system looks ready to make the jump to the big squad next year.

I’ll be close to 40 when Sid retires and I’ll likely be blaming heavy dust in the air or severe allergies that day. When that day comes, I will take some time to write down just how much that dude has meant to me, including the trickling effects of organization success, etc etc. He has given me a positive outlet during rough times of my life. He’s a special dude.
