Ownership always had final say.

I spoke with one of the owners' grandson in the smoke pit at Coyotes night club, he said the owners OK'd the Marc Savard trade as they did for every trade, and that he usually found out about trades a few days before it was made public. Oh and cool kid, down to earth too.

Why is Hanifin still playing? He should've been a healthy scratch for weeks now.

The Devils should also be thanking the Flames for giving them a reason to get rid of Ruff. Not the guy to be coaching that group.

15 years ago I was a sales guy for a consulting company and one of my accts was CNRL. Murray Edwards had to sign off of almost everything we sold to them...drove me nuts waiting. There is no question he is very hands on in the management of this team. Hearing he nixed a trade is not surprising.

Brutal just brutal what is ownership thinking ? What a sh*t show the flames are turning into. His value will never be higher they won’t win a cup next 2 years and why leave wolf in the minors when the have a golden opportunity to get him into games ?? This thought process makes no sense

He he finishes the season like he's been playing, his value will be higher in the off-season.

It's also not uncommon for owners to nix trades in all sports. If they're asking the team to pay Markstrom for two more years to play somewhere else, the rumoured return was pretty lacklustre.

What was the lacklustre rumoured return?

Holtz plus an asset or two, from the sounds of it.

A couple picks and a good young prospect to free up 6 mil and get a great young goalies experience isnt lacklustre in any way shape or form

Holtz isn't really a good young prospect anymore. Maybe it's him, maybe it was Ruff, but he hasn't looked very impressive since he moved to North America. His career is on a Puljujarvi trajectory. Jersey also wanted them to retain salary. In the summer, they can probably get 5 teams bidding for him and do a lot better.

Ruff has Holtz playing 4th line, not enough of a return imo.
Agree wait for more teams in the summer.

Name these 5 teams cause I don't see it, most teams have their goalies settled for next season.

I see 3 or 4 teams that might be looking for a goalie in the offseason and one of them is Jersey, one is the Sens and that's if they buyout Korpisalo, the other is LA but are they gonna wanna pay a division rival tax.. 🤷‍♂️

Doubt the offseason will bring any greater return for Markstrom then what they'd get for him from NJ now.

Ya I heard the same but without knowing the asset or two how can you call it lacklustre?

I like Holtz’s game. Wouldn’t be too chapped if the extra stuff was minimal.

Devils, Sens, Sabers, Hurricanes, Kings, Wings. Those are six obvious teams that need an upgrade if they want to do anything. Then there will a bunch of teams who will blame their goalies for early playoff exits. How desparate do the Oilers and Leafs get if their goalies are ass in the playoffs?

Sens would be ideal if you could make them pay twice. Pay the price to get Markstrom and then pay again for the Flames to take back Korpisalo.

Sabres have Levi who has been doing well in the AHL since his demotion as their goalie of the future, whom they expected to take the reigns this year and DRW have Sebastian Cossa whom they expect to become their #1 as soon as next year.Carolina did not expect goaltending to be an issue as it was fine as recently as last year and have Anderssen and Kochetkov signed thru next season so they won't likely be looking.

Cossa hasn't been very impressive this year and Levi already flamed out once. Both teams have rosters that look competitive with elite goaltending, and it would be great for both young goalies to share the crease with Markstrom for a couple of years.

How much faith do you think the Canes have in Andersen, who will be another year older next year.

Cossa started slow in the AHL this season (same with the entire team) but has now taken the #1 job away from Hutchinson and been solid. Grand Rapids hasn't lost in regulation in 18 games (13-0-5).

Wings have Husso and Lyon signed for next season and Lyon has been pretty solid this season. Wings have no need what so ever for Markstrom.

If the Wings think they can be competitive next year, there's absolutely a need to improve their goaltending. The Devils turned down a chance to get Hellebuyck last year and went with two unproven guys who were fairly solid the previous year, and look how that turned out.

Yzerman also won two of his Cups because the Wings traded for older established goalies.

Lol you seem to forget the no trade clause so if those teams are on his list there goes your whole theory and don’t judge a player cause they are struggling where they are at all teams have messed up prospects progression and once traded they come around , this isn’t even considering injuries

With all the players gone and if they do trade Markstrom that gives time to see what wolf is and if they think he’s not quite ready all that freed up money from Markstrom , Tanev , lindholm , big Z opens the door to get one of bostons goalies the up side to a trade now is to great to toss away for maybe a first round exit

All of those teams are ready to win now. He could likely be convinced to go to any of them.

It works the other way too. He's still under contract with the Flames for two more years. If he's too picky about where he'll go, he'll be stuck here competing for ninth.
