I feel like Detroit is wasting Berggren. Flyers would gladly take him.

Sure! Berggren and Perron and a 2nd for Konecny! And you peddle Perron at 1/2 salary to Kenny for a 1st! Deal!

1. Edvinsson (Could see him taking someone's spot like Ghost, easy.)

2. Berggren (Should a forward get moved out, there's no one that has proven it more in GR.)

3. Johansson (He's an unsung hero in GR. Everyone from Vrana, to Mazur, and Cossa has raved about how solid he is defensively on the ice, as well as how he sees the game)

It's hard. We have a lot of great prospects in the pipeline. Mazur is close on this list, too. The team is really gelling and Kasper is heating up. It's just a matter of time before he could overtake Berggy on my list.

End of year makes it tough. When Kasper scores or gets off his shot, it is a beautiful wrister. You’re at least the second or third that has talked about Johansson so the waves are out there. No one quite knows what’s going on with Berggren. If somehow things have “soured” we’ll likely know fairly soon. Eddy looks huge out there. Good reach, good skating, needs to be on a line with a mentor type dman but there’s a lot to like. Nice take.

It would be hard to argue with you. I’d responded to someone. I’m trying to find out if something went awry. (Similar to Zadina last year being unhappy with his projected role). If things have soured we’ll find out eventually.

You’ve been one of the voices pretty consistently happy with Danielson. I thought he looked really good at camp. If he jumps the line it will be the Larkin scenario. When Z walked in and told Kenny that they were a better team with Larkin (I believe it was done in Traverse City). This time it would be Larkin going to bat.

Hate to change topics but we should be watching the Lions today. If Dan h(hit me on 20 ) Campbell was coaching both teams today it would only be 7-0.

If Reynolds would have caught the ball, (twice) on big downs.......well, it might have put Campbell as the gambling genius!

Like I said I would hate to play black Jack with Campbell as he would be the only one to hit on 20. And by the way he is the only reason the lions aren’t playing today as he was not able to change his style when everyone knows you need to take the points in a nfc title game especially when you are leading. Just a really stupid move kind of ruined the great season he had. Hopefully he learns that playoff games are different than regular season games. Anyways let’s go Red Wings.

I’m very confused by the “Seider would have been available” reference in this article. He would have “been available” if what? If we drafted someone else? Could someone please explain?

Ok, ok, ok. Now THIS is unfair. The pipleine is full of studs right now. I seriously think dang-near any of them could make the jump with minimal impact to the team.

Lots of talk about Johanson & Mazur. Bergy n Danielson. Kasper's clicking. Savage may be a surprise. ASP will be in GR next year, he's got to get acclimated to NA hockey. Augy's going to be good, he's a force, watch the tourney - kid has solid puck control and tracks it like very few (if any) at his age. Cossa seems like he's finally getting it. He needs more time, no doubt but with Lyon & Husso (provided he turns a corner), we should be good for a couple of years.

So, why do I say this is an unfair ask? Because. Well. I think Danielson may well be the last cut in camp, if not on the team. Watch his play; Man among boys. He's devastating. Johnny Burgers, Johansson, Mazur, Eddy...5 FIVE kids, Jeremy. H2 laid out some really good ideas to clear spaces. I really REALLY want Kane to stay. His impact on this team....he's brought The Cat out of his shell, made him a better player. Guy's got everything we need. And he's ONLY 35, so we have a bit more time with him.

Ok, my THREE (still not fair...):
1. Johnny Burgers. He's done everything to make his case. He's ready. He needs a touch more refinement on his d-play. But Kane will be a good mentor for that....

2. Kasper. He's a tough character. Gritty, sublime shot that well-placed, foot-speed is traumatic for defenders. 3C, for dang sure.

3. Eddy. Big man. Big player. His "fight" a couple weeks ago was a statement to all: I'm here, I'm capable of hurting you. You don't want this. He hits so much harder now. His control of the puck, how quickly he can walk the line and the subtle changes of the angles of his shots. Man's ready.

4. Danielson. Man. Boys. Do the math. Kid's gonna ve a wrecking ball. Might take a few games to truly take hold. Watch this kid. Bad. Assterisk.

5. Mazur. Grinder. Guts. Crazy-good with his hands. Needs some more foot speed, but this guy...great shot, imaginative play-making, passes are just sick. Yup.

Condemn my choices if you will....but Jeremy MADE me do it

Nice post Mike. I've watched all four UM/MSU games this year. I think Augustine is going to be a stud. I think Cossa will as well.

One thing that the military started doing with special operations soldiers, pilots and other high-stress jobs, is to measure heart rate variability (HRT) during periods of acute stress. What they found is that the people who can remain calm during high-stress situations, including gun fights, have what's called a metronomic heartbeat. They don't have much variability in their heart rate, no matter how much stress is put on them. Since those studies, the testing is now part of selection. They are actively seeking people with metronomic hearts.

I've always wondered if the best goalies in the world (and maybe pitchers too) have metronomic heartbeats as well. Watching Augustine Saturday night against UM reminded me of those studies. He was so calm and relaxed, it was really amazing to watch. After the game, when everyone was going crazy, he still looked as calm as ever. He just appears to be one of those guys that never gets high, nor ever gets low, he's just even keeled all the time. I think that's a fantastic trait of great goalies.

Man, I wasn't exactly crazy about it in the offseason either, but the fact that Chiarot, Holl, Maatta, and Petry all still signed through at least the end of next season looks even worse with 51 extra games of hindsight. Not that all or even any of those guys are "bad" per se but they're expensive middle-to-bottom of lineup players (to varying degrees) and there are entirely too many of them.

It's especially frustrating in that several of these guys were ostensibly brought in to be reliable defensive defensemen but instead it's Seider who is being used in a shutdown role and being burdened with brutally tough defensive minutes. It's open to debate whether that's an indictment of Lalonde's deployment decisions, an indictment of Detroit's bottom four defenders, or both.

All this preamble is me saying that I would ordinarily consider Edvinsson pretty close to a lock to make the team next year and I think Johansson deserves to finally get a real look. Not to mention I would love to get another solid offensive defender via trade or free agency to replace Gostisbehere (if he's not brought back). But for that to happen Yzerman has gotta find a way to make a couple of those veteran defender contracts disappear.
